About the WILD- and the SSILD-Techniques

I'm new here at the forum and still a non-lucid dreamer. The first issue was that I had problems with doing RCs while sleeping. Even though I have gotten better with that.

So last week I tried WILDing and it didn't work. My problem is not the fact that it doesn't work (I know it's a hard technique) but that I won't remember any dream I had. Actually I have a good Dream-Memory. Everytime I fall asleep normally I can remember at least one of the dreams.

Now I want to know if it's normal that you can't remember after failing or not?

The second thing I wanted to ask is about SSILD. Everytime I wake up in the middle of the night, I try to get to sleep again. I'm sure that I did everything the guide on this forum says but I'm not able to fall asleep while trying to use SSILD. Does anyone of you have an advice?

How long are you staying up before you attempt to SSILD? In the original version of SSILD it mentions that you may have a false awakening, how do you know you weren't asleep? Did you do a RC?

Yes I did reality checks. And since I wasn't able to fall asleep again I thought I could get tired again if I read something, so I got back to this forum and read about LDs.

Try to get the habit of doing them every time you wake up or when you got to sleep - if you're doing them only during the day it's less likely to transfer into your dreams.

First of all, try to at least be able to fall asleep if the WILD fails. What I mean by that - maybe shorten the WBTB or do it in a different time or focus less on the anchor (mantra, or counting, etc). It's better to at least fall asleep during the WILD without awareness than to not be able to sleep - because even the tiny bit of awareness can give you a DILD lucid in the dream that follows the failed WILD.

About lower recall after a failed WILD - I think it's mostly a coincidence or normal fluctuation of dream recall... I at least didn't observe such connection... LD practice only increase the chances for LDs and recall practice increases the chances for recall - so be careful to not associate a failed attempt with a problem - usually just by continuing the practice you'll see improvement, on average, let's say over the period of a week or a month.

SSILD is a sort of WILD class method - so most of what I wrote for mantra- or counting-WILD above also applies here. Maybe shorten the WBTB duration or do it in a different time or focus less on the anchor (the senses in this case) - shift the balance more towards normally falling asleep and focus less.
