Hey there,
It can help to focus on the result, and not on the action.
For example, when you're flying and you find you're losing control, focus on where you're going, not on your lack of control. When you're trying to get to a beach through a door, focus on the beach , not the door. Sometimes, you can even 'fib' it by telling yourself and the dream you did succeed, even if its not apparent yet. If you walk through that door and the beach isn't there, tell yourself that it is. Walk around wherever you are and focus on the beach, and the dream might catch up and slowly change your surroundings to that beach.
Dreams have a tendency to follow your train of thought. If your train of thought is 'oh I'm losing control of my flight', you likely will lose more control. If your train of thought is 'that's where I'm flying towards', your flight might stabilize. Likewise, if your train of thought is 'I'm not at the beach I wanted', then the dream will make sure you're not there. If your train of thought is 'I am at the beach' even when you don't seem to be, the dream may follow it and bring you there.
Just my experience,
