      What did I experience??

So today I woke up and 7 and had to take the SAT so when I got home at like 4 I decided to just see if I could pull off a WLD; which I could not (I can never achieve wilds). So about 2 minutes into laying there the middle of my left foots arch started hurting like some type of flea or something was gouging my skin, I decided to try ignoring it like it was nothing and after 10 minutes or so it was kinda fading.. At some part of this I accidentally opened my eyes and just shut them again (is this okay?) and awhile after I literally jolted awake from my tired state. Like my whole body just spazzing; maybe it was because I fright it with my arms folded around my chest?

      Sorry this is really long...

I don't know about your foot. It's okay to open your eyes for a second. You experienced a hypnic jerk, an involuntary twitch your brain sends as a reflex to make sure you're ready to fall asleep. They can come in handy if you're accidentally falling asleep in a tree or a bath tub or something. It's tough to pinpoint a cause as they can be random, but it was likely caused from a combination of the stress of taking the SAT and the irregular sleep schedule.

You were very close to fall asleep. If you would have stayed still after this hypnic jerk you probably would have experienced HH in a few seconds.

Opening your eyes momentarily and then closing them is fine. The WILD community refers to that as Reverse Blinking, which can actually help with WILDs at times. I've experienced that sudden jolt wakefulness before, no idea what its from haha. That spazzing though, was it like a vibrating feeling? If it was you might have been experiencing some Out of Body Experience symptoms. I think Dolphin has it down about the hypnotic jerk though.

I think the spazzing had no vibration, it just caused my arms/ legs and possibly my torso to jolt/ jerk. So yea it's probably that! I might try the reverse blinking, I think I tried it a year ago and failed.

Well hey that was last year, and I'm sure you've made a ton of progress since then Ruby so give it a shot! It's only failing if you completely give up!
