      Difficulty Concentrating During MILD

I’ve had a lot of successful MILDs so far, but when I try to do it, my mind usually wanders and I find myself thinking about anything other than my intention to become lucid, as well as becoming lost in daydreams, making it very difficult to focus.

It has nothing really to do with tiredness or falling asleep -- it’s just that other thoughts seem so much more interesting and a lot of the time I just prefer to daydream or think about things that happened during the day etc. Basically anything interesting that takes my attention.

I’ve heard that meditation can be good for this kind of thing, as it helps you to block out interfering thoughts and increases your ability to focus (I think). I have tried meditation but I usually encounter the same difficulty during this as well! I’m also not sure how good of a solution meditation would really be.

      Would anyone have any advice?

Same here MILD is actually my favourite technique, so I hate it when I can't concentrate. What helps me is focusing on my breathing when I feel my mind wandering, I stop for a few seconds and then continue. It also helps if you imagine yourself having successfully become lucid in the morning. Like you said, it's a matter of being able to focus and meditation is good for that, but I personally don't do it often, although there are many forms of meditation.

Yes it’s my favorite technique as well. It has a high success rate if done properly but it does require a lot of concentration and effort. It’s also odd that even if you wanted to LD, your mind would find anything other than LD’ing to focus on. I guess my mind just doesn’t find LD’ing that interesting! But yes, that’s a good idea you mentioned of stopping for a moment if your mind wanders and then continuing again. Perhaps any means of calming your mind would become easier with practice as well.
