It really depends on the quality of the LD. In most of my lucids the world looks very similar, but with me it seems a little more.... glowy. It feels a little different for me, I don't feel my body as much but you do notice it. You will be amazed at what your mind can remember from the world when projecting it into dreams. As for Dream characters, all the ones I've seen look exactly like the real ones but they can act in a variety of ways.

Honestly, it is like being able to see 3D with only one receptor. It is like being able to taste and smell at a higher level (limit break). Sometimes you can hear both worlds (dream and real) and sounds that can't exist in anything but a made up world. And you can feel all the things that exist, plus things that are impossible.

Simply put, senses is not the place that reality beats dreams.

Yes, LDs can be very very real. The neurons that are fired in waking life are the same that are fired in dreams. It can be clear as real life, and much more(very very Crystal clear), and the sensations are just wow, much more intense than real life. Not all LDs are like that, but the ones with high awareness, and you can definitely train your awareness to be much stronger in dreams.
I fill my heart with fire, with passion, passion for what makes me nostalgic. A unique perspective fuels my fire, makes me discover new passions, more nostalgia. I love it.

They can seem just as vivd as waking life, no kidding.
If you think this sounds unbelievable then I felt the exactly same way when I first found out about it a couple years ago, like looking around in waking life and thinking "no way they can be this vivid!".
But after experiencing several lucid dreams myself I can guarantee that they are just as vivid as waking life in most cases.
The only real giveaway for me that I was dreaming was the fact that I was in a completely unfamiliar place and had no idea how I had gotten there, and also to some extent that I seemed able to wish random people to appear around corners.
It is an exhilarating experience to say the least, and even a few seconds of it can make your day, even when you don't even do anything special in the dream - the experience itself of simply being in a lucid dream environment is cool enough.

There is, however, a certain art to handling lucid dreams properly.
For example, you might have problems walking, as if you are walking under water, and your vision might be blurred or blocked in some way.
It can also be very hard to remember things from waking life and think rationally, so for example you might have problems remembering your own name, and you might assume that the dream characters are actual people from waking life (you might meet your parents in the dream and then ask them what they thought of the dream when you wake up).
But these obstacles are completely harmless, and can even be quite cool to experience.

      From my personal experiences:
Visual: Varies from extremely blurry to absurdly vivid.
Auditory: Vary from completely mute to realistic
Tactile: Varies from completely numb to scary real.
Taste: I don't have many experiences with taste, but I have eaten a few things in my dreams and from what I remember they tasted almost exactly like they would in real life
Smell: I have yet to smell anything in my dreams but that's because I've never really tried.

In the words of Gizedwards, the dream world can look either not real, real, or more real.

My Lucid Dreaming Motto - "I have walked upon the the surface of a burning star. Observed events so infinitesimal and instantaneous that they can barely be described as having occurred at all. You... you're just a dream character. And this world's most powerful dream character poses no more threat to me than it's smartest cupcake." - Dr. Manhattan (kinda)

Most of my dreams are just like waking life and my first LD was just like waking life to but it seemed better. I was in my house and everything seemed real and I was like no way. It's pretty awesome

To me, the difference between waking life and lucid dreams is all about the atmosphere.
In a lucid dream everything feels more "alive" and mysterious, and you want to explore everything.
Even looking at your front door can feel like an amazing adventure - "wow, it looks so realistic, and it isn't even made out of atoms or anything! This door is all in my mind, and I have created it...! I wonder what it feels like to open it, and what could be behind it...?!".
