Lucidity Finally!!!! Did Caffeine Possibly Help???

It's been 20 days since my last lucid dream. What propelled me to join this website was that lucid dream. Then I started my dream journal only two days after and been journaling every night even since. Tonight I finally had two lucids dreams!!!! I'm so happy!!! it's very possible that my second one was a W.I.L.D.

In the first dream I realized I was dreaming after my car's back bumper was about to hit a wall due to it being on neutral. The weird thing that occured to me is that it was taking too to long to hit the wall, even though the wall was only two feet away.

I did the reality check with my hand and noticed that my thumb was half there and the other half was fuzzy like when there is bad reception on a tv set. I also noticed another finger missing, I believe it was my index finger. I was so excited. I was finally lucid! I did not know what to do but remembered reading something on this site about paying attention to your dream body so I put my hands on my chest and my legs and felt my body. After that I noticed my nephew's face, who was in the dream, changing into Mccauly Culkin's face. I felt this might mean the dream was destabilizing and that I might lose lucidity so I try to stabilize it by moving around a bit and focusing on other things. I decided to focus my intentions on flying so I bent my knees and began to fly over a body of water. It felt like a body of water somewhere in Rome. I decided to try the nose pinch reality check so I went under water, although a bit hesitant and fearful, and did the reality check. It worked but it didn't provide as much clarity as the five fingers reality check. After that I flew back up and out of the water and continued flying. I noticed the whole time I was flying that the song, "Lady in Red" was playing. When I had gone underwater the volume decreased as it would when going underwater. I decided to look for someone I had a crush in the past. So when I started looking for him while flying and crying out his name...he never appeared. I kept trying and trying until I finally woke up with a splitting headache.

I went to the kitchen with my head pulsating with pain and popped one excedrin pill. I told my sleepy and patient husband about my lucid dream I wrote the dream down in my journal and then I went back to sleep...

The next time I started dreaming I noticed immediately I was dreaming. It was as if I had started the dream already aware even though I can't recall the transition from wakefulness to sleep so I'm not really sure this makes it a W.I.L.D. I can't remember too much about the dream but what I did remember I put it in my dream journal. I had woken up after that lucid as well but at this point the combination of my headache and sleepiness did not make it a priority to remember so I just jotted down some fragments in my journal.

Is it possible that the caffeine in the Excedrin helped me stay focus enough to have a second lucid dream or is it just the fact that I already had one lucid dream that night that made it easier to have another one right afterwards. I also had two cups of coffee in the day rather than my usual one cup of coffee so my caffeine intake was higher than usual that day but not enough to trigger insomnia.

On the second dream, I don't believe it was a WILD - there are occurences that you suddenly become aware during a DILD (Usually, ADA practies assist in this).

I cannot make a say on Excedrin - I know nothing on how drugs and vitamins affect sleep and awareness, so I can't help there.

      DILD - 42 | WILD - 14 | OBE - 0 | AP - 0

Thank you for your response Dreamscape Goat. Yeah, I figured it's probably not a WILD since I did not experience the transition from WL to DL. It's still a big step for me to have two lucids in one night. I don't think I've ever done that before so it was very exciting. I just wish I could pinpoint what exactly may have triggered this. I know journaling helps a lot but it's odd because today all I can remember from dreaming is a person and nothing else. I wonder if it's normal to have some days here and there where recall is crappy even though you have been journaling daily. I would think dream recall would get progressively better the more you do it. I guess it may also have to do with the level of energy one has or what happened during the day. Anyway, I'm a novice so any advice is appreciated.

Ps. I love your avatar! I might just do one with a mask or a helmet. I don't want people to know my face but I can still appear, very creative! =-)

I have suffered many headaches in the past due to toxins in the environment, and my diet.
I used to have headaches 2, 3, 4, or 5 times a week. What helped was cutting out MSG from my diet (monosodium glutamate) which is now called YEAST EXTRACT, HYDROLYZED YEAST EXTRACT, or NATURAL FLAVORS. Also, Aspartame AKA Nutrasweet made me have headaches, too. Now they call it something else to disguise it. Sulfites and sulfates are toxins that make people have headaches, as does chlorine and fluoride. Hopefully, if you cut out these toxins, and get enough sea salt (not "table salt") and purified water, you may be able to avoid a lot of headaches. Sounds like you may have been dehydrated from the coffee.
Yes, caffiene can make you become lucid, like any stimulant because it may make you sleep more lightly, but I don't personally recommend it for lucidity, though several people have reported it here on DV. There are many interesting vivid dream inducing supplements that I would like to try, but haven't been able to buy them all yet. Some that you might want to try that are really good for you are choline and a B vitamin. Pomegranates are high in choline. Valerian is an herb that a tea is made from that helps you sleep and also can make dreams more vivid.
