Disabled and need help becoming Lucid

I am disabled (only physically not mentally) and I need help on how to become lucid, (I cant get in or out of bed myself) once I am in bed I'm unable to move anything except my head, arms and hands/feet, I also sleep on my side and can't roll over onto my back. As you can see this is a problem and I need your expert help :D.

So I wish to become lucid and have great dreams that I can remember and be free, I would love some help on this please, I feel like I'm alone with this problem.

I have read some stuff about Lucid dreaming and I think I know the basics, Just treat me as if I'm completely new, may be easier that way. :D

Personally I don't think not being able to lie on your back is a problem; all my lucids have been Dream Induced (i.e. I realised I was dreaming while having a non-lucid dream) and I get much better rates of success with this if I don't worry about my sleeping position...in fact I'm pretty sure I fall asleep on my side most of the time.
If you've read the basics then I'm sure you're aware of the apparent importance of keeping a dream journal - don't worry if that's too problematic for you though, it's absolutely not necessary as long as you still take time to recall of your dreams in as much detail as possible in the morning.

That's really all I can help with...if you want my favourite technique, that'd be All Day Awareness. And I always say this to new people and link them to this tutorial, because it works wonders for me and for me at least is much easier to do than WILDing (slipping into a lucid dream immediately from being conscious) :P

Thank you Mystycal, I shall try and train myself with ADA and see what happens. I am just worried about remembering my dreams, I wake up and think about my dream and i get nothing accept random images of my life. I tried DILD I think last night and I was so relaxed, but I could not fall asleep, any tips for actually falling asleep?

That's normal when you start out. With practice you'll remember more and more of your dreams, first maybe snippets and then you'll get better. Recall of dreams is a trainable skill, it rarely appears out of nowhere :)
As for falling asleep, just do it. I'm sorry I can't explain myself better than that, but everyone has slept many times in their lives so there is no way you don't know how to do it...just don't try to do it, because as we all know when you try to fall asleep sleep doesn't want to come. I'd say just do whatever you want to do before falling asleep like mantras or visualisations or whatever, and then forget about them and just go to sleep. Seems to work for me at least :P

You have a very unique condition, but as Myst said, you will definitely succeed in lucid dreaming with time! When you first start out, dream recall is pretty terrible. At best I would remember strong emotions, and little snap shots of my dreams. But as you continue to recall, and write them down/ remember them in as much detail as possible, they will become more and more vivid and clear to recall!

As for falling asleep, I totally understand what you mean. Everytime I get in bed I always do a mantra and visualize; but then after that I am too excited to fall asleep! I've tried to meditate myself into sleep, but I've found this to be quite impossible. SO; do you mantras (repeating phrases like "I will dream, I will realize I am dreaming"), and then just let your mind wander like any normal nights sleep. It will be hard for the first few minutes, but your excitement will fade eventually, and you will drop off to sleep!

Good luck with this, I hope you achieve lucidity soon, and that it brings you the joy and freedom you are looking for... I'm sure it will!

For falling asleep, as has been said, just don't think about it too much. If however you are still having trouble, start by relaxing each muscle in your head. Just visualize the tension and release it. There is really no need to go over your whole body unless you are having trouble with relaxing in general.

Next, with every out breath (breathe normally), imagine your consciousness receding (this is difficult to explain). As you breathe out, feel as though you are losing a little more consciousness each time, like letting go of tension in your mind, or your brain if that visual works better for you, releasing your thoughts. It is important that you actually feel this release. You may want to visualize yourself descending a ladder if that helps, halting when inhaling and resuming when exhaling. When you start to get imagery, just passively watch it until you lose consciousness. This has only failed me under very extreme circumstances, but then, everyone is different.

You can also read WILD, just in case the opportunity comes along for you to do WILD.

But I would start with concentrating on DILD first.

Daytime awareness helps with quality of all dreams, regular and lucid alike. For this, I would recommend to read WILD (sageous) tutorial, especially the self-awareness section.

It is true, that having good dream recall is important. You can work on that by writing down your dreams. But the thing with LDs is, that you will most likely remember it, because it will be so different and exciting.

You will not be disappointed. Huge amount of people's first instinct is to fly. And flying is just unbelievable awesome. Just like the real thing. 0 gravity. Only astronauts, birds and LDers know the feeling. But only LDers can fly without any apparatus. Mindblowing. Get ready.

Tonight will be my official first attempt, its never to early to LD (Im being optimistic here :D), I WILL fly, if I don't get booted in the first few seconds this first time. My mind I don't think will ever be ready until I experience it :D.

Oh yes Stephen Hawking, Brilliant mind, honestly I look at him then I look at myself and I realize it could be a lot worse for me, sounds awful I know. I remember watching this on the discovery channel last year I think, really interesting stuff.

You are understandably excited, and that is the issue. No matter what technique you use, if you really are afraid of having trouble sleeping, or if you believe you will have trouble, then you usually will. It is tricky, but you must try to convince yourself of the opposite. Regardless however, if you practice awareness for a least some portion of the day and think about lucid dreaming, it is bound to happen eventually, and once it happens the first time, the lucid dreaming techniques will probably make more sense and seem more real.

Try to relax and believe that you will succeed, even if it takes a few weeks. For now try to focus on lucid dreaming during the day, but when you go to sleep, try not to think about it at all if possible, or try not to care, at least until you are better able to sleep while doing so. This can be done but it takes practice. The ability to direct your mind is probably the best tool that you can cultivate for lucid dreaming regardless.

As a last resort, you might want to try some isochronic tones to help you sleep. I don't know much about this though, and using an aid may not be the best idea.

Ok thanks, I will forget about lucid dreaming at the moment and focus on remembering my dreams, also i am doing ADA and im already getting used to doing it :D.

Update:
I had a dream last night and I remembered it, I am struggling to figure out if I was lucid or not, I seem to remember influencing my avatar to stand up from a seated position, but I didnt feel excited in anyway, I stayed calm anyway and the dream ended after I stood up, is this a LD or am I just wishful thinking?

Most of the time, first lucid is VERY exciting. You get filled with emotions you had no idea existed.

And you would at some point exlaim "I'm dreaming". Or some other way acknowledge that.

So this one sounds like all the talk and thinking about lucid dreaming is manifesting itself in your regular dreams. Which is a great sign. Keep it up.

ok, thanks gab :). I realise its an adventure in itself the road to lucidity and I'm enjoying it :D.

Glad to hear it. Regular dreams can be quite interesting on their own. If you can take it in stages and be consistent, missing as few days as possible, you will be surprised at how good at this you can become over even just a few months, not to mention years; but there is no time limit. Consistency is king in all worthy disciplines, but also enjoyment of the journey.

You really will know when you get lucid - it's mind blowingly amazing, and is very likely to shock you awake if it's anything like my (limited) experiences.

Congrats on remembering your dream though.
As you will find, it's most important to try and stay very still, and leave your eyes closed as soon as you wake, and carefully track back through your dream to recall it.
If you don't do it immediately you will find it fades very fast!
I usually remember 2 dreams a night, sometimes 3, but I do sometimes find it difficult to remember them all. It's not always the first that's more difficult to remember either, because if the first is more striking it's more memorable.
