Hey All
Today I randomly thought of this new to become lucid, so i decided to write this tutorial on it and try it out myself for the next few weeks. In theory, it should give you at least 1 lucid dream a night if all goes well, but we will never know until its tested. Please feel free to leave constructive criticism in the comments as I just came up with this method literally hours ago and have not completely developed the idea yet. Ok, now on to the tutorial!
What you will need:
A good nights sleep
*A good prospective memory
Developing Your Prospective Memory
In case you don't know what a prospective memory, it is the part of your working memory that allows you to remember things for the future, such as if you are going to the grocery store and you take a mental note to remember to buy milk, thats utilizing your prospective memory. The best way to develop this is to choose an item and perform a reality check every time you see that item. It can be a mirror, a door, a chair, anything. Be sure to switch up the items daily and perform this activity until you are consistently hitting your desired targets.
Introduction
Have you ever woken up a minute or two before your alarm clock in the morning, and have done it consistently for days, weeks, or even months? Or do you look at your clock the same time every day? Both these things are the works of your internal clock. Your internal clock is the part of your brain that accurately knows the time of day or night even when your not looking at a clock. Using this, people are able to set the intention to wake up at a certain time without the use of an alarm clock. With this knowledge, I wondered that if you can set your internal alarm clock to wake you up at a certain time every night, can't you utilize your internal alarm clock to make you have heightened awareness or to do a reality check at a certain time every night ?
Steps
Step 1:Find Out When you Are in REM
You should try to find out when you are in REM sleep during your school or work days, because you have work or school for most days of the week. Your REM cycles rotate every hour and 30 minutes upon falling asleep, with the amount of time in REM increasing after every cycle. Use this knowledge to calculate approximately when you will most likely be in REM sleep. For those who do not know, REM(Rapid Eye Movement) sleep is the period of the sleep cycle in which most intense and vivid dreaming occur. Also take note that the average person takes 15 minutes to fall asleep, and that is when the sleep cycles start. If you are not in the mood for doing math, you can just search up a REM calculator on google.
Step 2: Choose your Time!
Based on your personal sleep times and cycles, choose a time during the night that you would like to become lucid. For maximum effectiveness, this time should be when you are in REM sleep and more towards the morning, when most dreams occur.
Step 3: Set your Intention
Set Your Intention to do a reality check or have heightened awareness at your desired time at night. At this point you can choose to set your intention to either do a reality check or have heightened awareness at your given time, either one will work equally to induce lucidity. Personally, I will most likely be using awareness to induce lucidity, as heightened awareness in the dream state is what causes most of my current lucids. To set your intention, repeat the mantra "I will perform a reality check at (Your Time)" OR
"I will have heightened awareness at (Your Time). Really try to set your intention and get through to your brain what you are trying to accomplish. Visualize yourself becoming lucid at your desired time.
-If mantras are not your thing, try this!
This is another method people use to set a mental alarm clock, and I think it can work equally to induce lucidity. Simply tap your pillow the same number of times as the hour you want to wake up. Use you right hand for the number of hours, and your left hands for the number of minutes. For example, if you want to get up at seven, hit your pillow seven times just before you go to sleep. See the picture in your head again of waking up at seven. Really try to communicate to your subconscious mind that this is the time you will perform your reality check or have heightened awareness.
If all goes according to my theory, you will develop a natural alarm clock for becoming lucid at that time, every night as long as you keep your intention going. I will be trying this method every night and will keep you guys posted on this thread. Feel free to share your own experiences of this method in the comments, and please feel free to leave constructive criticism or expand on my theory like i mentioned earlier. Happy dreaming and good luck
