      IILD? Would this work?

I thought Of an idea to help people have lucid dreams. I named it Item Induced Lucid Dream (IILD). I thought you could have an item that in a dream would not work as it would in real life. Maybe like a spinning top? Cuz in a dream it wouldn't stop spinning. Or an item like that. So in real life you can check if your dreaming or not randomly. Basically a reality check item? If someone could test it out it would be great. Thanks

I kind of like the idea of this, but wouldn't it be easier to carry an object around with you that you associate with dreaming? Maybe every time you see a bracelet of yours you assume you're dreaming and reality check. The problem with your idea is that although it's not impossible for a top to spin forever in a dream, it's not impossible for it to stop either.

True. That was all I could think of short notice. I need to think of something that will defy gravity or physics in a dream...

Yeah, it would be just a Dream-Induced Lucid Dream with an item as a reminder, since as OreoMan pointed out, the spinning top may stop spinning while in a dream (depending on if you think it will or not). It's nothing new, but hey! whatever works for you is all that you need. Good luck!

How about something that makes a noise? Like those stupid click toys or a sound effect on a smart phone? I imagine the sound would be all weird in a dream, slow or warped, but even that may be to subtle. The idea should work about as well as any other RC.

Sounds strangely similar to a Leonardo dicaprio movie revolving around dreams. Who ALSO uses a spinning top to see if he was dreaming or not -.-

There's a really old thread on this forum somewhere about this and it worked well for people. Play with a tennis ball in your room bouncing it off walls, catching it etc. As you are doing this keep asking yourself if you are dreaming and do a reality check. Go to bed with the tennis ball strapped into one of your hands. During sleep the subconscious will be aware of the tennis ball in your hands and should appear in your dreams. If it does appear you may ask yourself if you are dreaming just like you did when playing with the ball awake and do a reality check. Voila - lucid dream

I just watched it for the first time. I almost fell asleep. It is basically all action and no plot. Lots of gun fire, but almost nothing I would think of as lucid dreaming stuff. I was disappointed.

While your idea is good (and fabricated in to a feature film that made millions) a top is a terrible item (totem; which I find more appropriate) if you are planning on attempting to spin it. In your waking life, it spins and falls and in your dreams (unless your already lucid) it would most likely do the same thing. You could very well do what I do with my totem. I carry around a 1922, silver peace coin (the two headed one that two face uses) and I associate it with dreaming. I use my coin a lot to make small choices throughout the day and every time I pull it out to play with it or flip it, I preform three reality checks.

      1. Look at my hands
      2. Plug my nose
      3. Try to push my fingers through my coin and see if the faces change.

You can find an item, like a watch. In fact I've heard of people using watches quite a bit. Maybe a belt buckle with writing on it, needless to say you'd be looking at your crotch several times for a reality check.

As my coin has faces and numbers I can still check to see if they change while attempting to push my fingers through it.

      Just a rambling, sorry lol.

I watched inception yesterday. I didn't like it a whole bunch. The top was the first thin that came to mind cuz I was playing with one. It was the thought that I was trying to show...

Really? Inception is in my top ten films. I loved it
And Yeah the idea could work, you just need to choose the right totem. I don't think a top would do you justice.
