Sure I already am for the purpose of my School Project: Lucid dreams
Ok yeah I know his voice is really really relaxing and booring, he even apologize for it himself ^^
First of all he starts by explaining that it's important to be open minded and sceptical, because this can't be understood by hearing his lecture or reading his books. You have to experience it to understand. He just explaining it in a scientific way and back up his assumptions with physics, metaphysics and his conscious studies. (assumptions for us, proof for him).
He is a former NASA physcisist, but 35 years ago his boss told him to read Bob Monroes book, and when he did the first thing he did was to ask his boss if he was nuts.
Then they got to meet Monroe and he asked them to be his scientist and study consciousness. And Thomas and his friend Dennis started their journey to explore the consciousness.
That's just a short summary of it, the whole story is much funnier to hear.
Anyway there are two ways to look at our reality in physics. The first one is objective, it's all about the "stuff" what we do what we see, touch and smell. The subjective experience is about the purpose, why we do something and about who we are. Some scientist believe that subjective isn't real, and some believe that it is real but not important because science can't deal with it.
Thomas Campbell explains that both are real.
He talks about a larger reality (this is what new age people would describe as the astral). Our physical reality is a subsystem of the larger system.
Now he talks about different physicist and different experiments in order to prove his core assumption: There is a Larger Reality.
Just like a fish in a aquarium can't understand what's outside the aquarium by studying the content of what's inside the aquarium. We can't understand the larger reality (astral, dreams w/e) based on observation from our physical reality.
Then he explains the 4 important criteria that a good theory is based on:
1. It has to have the fewest possible assumptions - Because it's based on too many assumptions it's not very reliable
2. It has to drive all the old answers
3. Drive new answers.
4. The new answers have be useful and be able to be proven.
I can explain it all again about all the physicist and experiments, but all you have to do is to watch the video really.
But his point is to prove the existence of the larger reality. By doing this he have defined the answer to the problem that Einstein and other physicist struggled with.
Albert Einstein - "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one"
"One has to find a possibility to avoid the continuum(together with space and time) altogether. But I have not the slightest idea of what kind of elementary concepts could be used in such as theory."
The missing component was the astral, it sounds like a big leap of faith to believe this, although most of the most known quantum physicist have gone in this direction. Which Thomas theory unites.
And this is so much lucid dreaming it can be! Serriously it means that we are in theory dreaming all the time! The Matrix exist.
Lucid dreaming is according to me right between the reality and the astral or larger reality, and if you are just conscious you can access other realities or access other information and data and learn new valuable things.
The way to access this is not through reality checks and day journals, the key is to be conscious.
Which is a hard thing to do for the western rational man. But a good way to start is by meditation.
Booring conclusion maybe, but it's the truth. And meditation is only boring when you strive for something to happen, which is by my experience already wrong. Just like Thomas Campbell say you have to approach without fear, hope and expectations.
I can't explain more, because I don't fully understand the consciousness yet, I will write about it in my DJ though, so if I discover something I will write it there.
I just found one of his explainations of the larger reality, where he starts by explaining how to learn it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_q5CDE2Nko Enjoy!
