Looking at yourself in the mirror.

I had a really long lucid dream today, because of some weird RC I came up with during a dream. During the dream I happened to look into a mirror for some reason or another, and the face I saw wasn't me. It was of whoever I was playing as in the dream which happened to look nothing remotely like me. So I said something like, "Hey that isn't me I must be dreaming." And almost instantly I had a false awakening.

Now what is weird is that I got up and the first thing I did was look into a mirror to see if it was really me, and it was or at least some reasonable facsimile. However, when I stared myself down in the mirror I was still able to tell it was a dream, and I entered another false awakening. Though that time I knew I was dreaming for sure so just went off and did stuff.

Also I say it was weird because both times I ended up being sucked into the mirror, or maybe sucked into my eyes as I stared at myself in the mirror. The RC wasn't so much see if I look different in the mirror, but stare intensely and see if something crazy happens, like getting sucked into the mirror and having a false awakening. Maybe a combination of the both.

I have done passing my hand our even my entire body through mirrors before as a RC and that always worked. I wonder even just seriously looking at yourself in mirrors might work as well. Either way it was kind of interesting, especially since I did it randomly in a dream. Maybe I will try to do it again on purpose some time.

Congrats on your dream! From the sound of it, you've already been pretty aware to be able to invent a RC. As such, the effects that you've experienced may not be possible to replicate in a normal state.

A couple days ago I looked at the mirror in a dream and I looked like an average attractive female face and was dressed in white. This was weird, since I'm a guy. I asked DCs if they are seeing what I'm seeing, but they ignored my question. What's even weirder is that I normally don't remember faces in a dream or forget them quickly. This face, I recognized instantly and was able to link to a specific image that I've seen earlier.

I've been reading a study about attractiveness about a week ago, so seeing that face is a type of "day residue", where imagery from the previous few days gets integrated in a dream in bizzare ways.

I've never been sucked through a mirror, but I forced my way through something like 10 mirrors in a row and ended up in a truly bizzare dream where my vision was only shades of brown. Strange.

PS. Haha, as I look at the picture, I see that she's also wearing white. That's some serious day residue right there.

The only time I can remember looking into a mirror while in a LD I saw no reflection. This actually scared me awake. For years I thought it was a OBE. In retrospect I believe it was a LD.

In one of my earlier lucids I was walking through my home town unaware that I was dreaming when I happened to get a glimpse at my reflection in a store window.
In the reflection I was asleep. My eyes closed, drool coming out of my mouth and it looked like I was snoring. It was a total head trip, but really a really cool way to attain lucidity.

Looking in the mirror and seeing another person would be terrifying for me. Even if I was playing a different character...it's just really weird. lol

I've known about lucid for a while but just had one 2 nights ago that peaked my interest.

In that LD, I looked at myself in the mirror as a reality check; I looked very deformed (like sloth) but I could tell it was me. I guess it was a false awakening (which at the time I didn't know about) as I was in the room I went to sleep in.

Last night I had another LD which was much more vivid (thanks to learning about spinning and rubbing your hand). It was a WILD and I ended up in a familiar bathroom. Curious this time I checked the mirror, I looked exactly like myself but everything was much clearer, more so than reality. It was great. It was like I just had lasik or something. Everything in very sharp HD.

I've gone through a mirror in an LD only once, and it led to an OoBE I didn't see my (or any, for that matter) reflection in the mirror though. Just a shiny surface I knew I could pass through.

I was always told not to look into mirrors while dreaming as it can lead to a nightmare because you won't like the way you see your self.

Once I had an FA and looked in the mirror to check if I was dreaming, I looked completely normal so went straight back to sleep. Fail.

I DEILDed into my bathroom once. I looked in the mirror and I looked perfectly normal. The only difference was in the eyes. My pupils (which are obviously black just like everyone elses) were darker black than normal (don't ask me how something can be blacker than black, I don't quite get that myself yet ). I got sucked into my eyes and had a FA.

I once looked into a mirror while in a faint lucid. I remeber I looked normal but my hair was lightly longer and scruffier and I had a bolt sticking out of the right side of my temple at a 45 degree angle

Staring at my reflection in a mirror has been a recurring RC for me in dreams, and it has helped me either attain lucidity, or lock in on weak lucidity, allowing for a more vivid LD. I've never been sucked into the mirror, but I do stare really close, almost challenging the reflection to 'do something weird' just to prove it's an LD. 99% of the time my eyes change in size and color. Less often but still frequent, my face doesn't look like mine.
