What type of technique is this?

I woke after one of my dreams (I always wake up after dreams) and looked at my clock and it was like 2am so I decided to try and go back to sleep. I was laying down and after a while I started thinking about something that would be cool to dream about. And after a while I was watching it, in a dream! I knew I was dreaming (kinda) because I thought to myself, "Can't blame me for this odd scenery, it's from that tv show! Blame them for putting this in my head." And then I laughed. So I was aware that I was dreaming, but not 100%. Then I woke up and realised how strange it was that I knew I was dreaming right from the start.

So I'm wondering what technique did I use? Because I'd love to do it again.

I'm not sure I understood your experience 100%, but if you realized that you were dreaming while you were dreaming, it would be a DILD. Otherwise, it sounds like a VILD, i.e. you consciously entered a dream through visualization of the desired dream-scape.

You can research these and other techniques on the forums.

It was definitely NOT a DILD. It was a WILD, and more specifically I would say a DEILD, due to the lack of any significant gap between waking up and going back to sleep.

From this alone I would have to say this is most definitely a WILD, and more specifically a VILD. Like cmind said, it could also be considered a DEILD (which is a type of WILD), but I'm not sure exactly where the line is between a DEILD and a regular WILD.

This was a visualization induced non-REM dream... a form of MILD. We visualize and dream in the same area of our brain.Simply by visualizing in a deeply relaxed state during sleep onset greases the grooves to lucid dreams. Keep visualizing (while deeply relaxed) and you will continue to have interesting dreams!
