      Reassuring Myself

      Hello All,

I am new to the forum, and quite excited by the prospect of lucid dreaming. Unfortunately, however much I wish to lucid dream, my skepticism always seems to get in the way. I am an imaginative person (and a dedicated day dreamer :p), but have strong cynical tendencies. My impulse is to doubt anything that seems too good to be true and my dreams have often reflected this. I ALWAYS dream in the first person, and whenever something fantastic is about to occur, my conscious reasoning steps in and says "Nope, sorry man. You can't do that"

Though this mode of thinking is often practical, it is something that holds me back from understanding non-mundane aspect of reality. I really want to experience the world of my own imagination as if it were reality. But I have some doubts as to whether or not LD's actually resemble reality. Can you folks tell me how real this experiences are to you, are there truly no physical limits in a Lucid Dream? Please, use this thread for absolutely clobbering my cynicism. IN THIS CASE I WANT TO BE WRONG!!!

Well I know that dreams are amazing. And being able to control a dream just sounds insane. I'm yet to have my first LD yet but I am very dedicated to getting there.

My only suggestion I can really give to you is to try change your mind set. Whenever your sitting down or your just lying down in bed repeat in your head "Nothing is to good to be true" or something along the lines of that. Just think that everything is amazing and that nothing is to good.

      Hope I helped a bit!

Well think for a moment how you experience the reality you are in, right now. Light passes through your eyes and you build an image in your brain, sound passes through your ears and adds to that image etc. So reality is quite a clear picture, though theres always that middle man, that 'passing through', because reality is external, to you. Now a dream is the complete opposite, completely internal, the whole image is built in your head so there is no 'passing through' and no middle man. Its more real and vivid than the external world could ever be, do you see? Obviously the clarity of lucid dreams differ from one another depending on many factors - what you eat, how your day went, how well you slept etc. so they are not always 100% perfect, though sometimes they can be 200% perfect. Its hard to really describe to someone who hasnt experienced it, all i can say is, once you do experience it, you will know and you will be hooked for life!

Edit: I forgot to add! lucid dreaming is completely and utterly 100% proven possible. Its as easy as realising 'Hey, im dreaming!', but thats the trick.. realising, which comes down to awareness. If you are not aware of when you are awake, you will not be aware of when you are dreaming.

To achieve the impossible - you must beleive that its possible

For me, it's very random, sometimes a dream can be very vivid and not very lucid or very lucid and not very vivid, or both, or neither. It's very random and it depends on how good you can visualise, how aware you are, and how good your imagination is. I've always found lucid dreaming an amazing world where everything is possible, especially waking up ever since I first stumbled upon this site a while ago. (like 2 years ago or something).
