three months, still nothing. New approach?

I'm starting to fight with myself now just to stay on track. I want to have lucid dreams and I've being bending over backwards just to achieve the state of consciousness, but after three- almost four consecutive months of one failure after another, it becomes rather demoralizing.

I'm sure to some people 3 months doesn't sound like much, but from my perspective it's like being a kid trying to go to sleep at night on December 24th; The hours feel like weeks. I'm trying my best to be patient, but I'm not gonna lie, it's hard.

I'm wondering if it may be wise to reconsider my approach to lucid dreaming, or should I just stay on course attempting to master DILD'S?

Listen to subliminal binaural beats. You can find them on Youtube and download for free through a Youtube Converter. I've been often frusterated, but not as much as you, until I began listening to this "music" for atleast 20 minutes a night. Sometimes I would accidently fall asleep to it on loop. The most successful one to me currently is the one where it whispers mantra's, so be aware for that one. Hopefully this works for you because Subliminal MILD's have given me 4 lucid dreams so far this month. Good luck.

Maby what you need to do is not try so hard. If you get into the mindset that it is such a hard thing to acheive then it will be harder. Lots of people who had a hard time getting lucids and found that as soon as they took a break they got a lucid. Also you should consider what technique you are using. Every oneironaut should try and be the best as they can at DILD. If you are continuously failing at WILD it might just not be for you, atleast for now. If you don't have any experience with what it is like to be in a lucid it can be harder to WILD. With DILD you want to make sure you are not just going through the motions. Be genuanly aware and clear minded when you do RCs. You should also look into MILD because it can be a very effective technique if done properly.

The Timer Method! Read my Dream Journal. It's gives me lucid dreams almost every time, ok I admit the lucid dreams are not like the adventures I want, but they are atleast lucids dreams. The Lucidology explanation to why this might give you many spontanious lucid dreams is because the techniques uses fractionation, which means that every time I get out of trance, the next time I get in it will be much stronger. Even if this isn't true and just a placebo, it works for me.
The best result I have ever had is 3 lucid dreams in a row, then I usually have a dryspell for 2 weeks (This was when I was using regular DEILDS)
Now I have had 1 lucid dream one normal dream and then 3 lucid dreams in a row in 5 days! so it's still progress.
If I have a lucid dream next night, the timer method really is a Lucid dream at will device!

Why not try WILD(cause you mentioned you're only DILDing)? Maybe DILD isn't "the one" for you.

3 months is long enough to conclude whether or not a method works for you. 3 months of DILD have yielded nothing, so your first step I would say would be to move on. Try something else.

With the change up of techniques will be a new flow of confidence in yourself, trust me. I have gone 5 months and only about 3 weeks ago did I have anything that could be called an LD, even if it was short and weak.

So you are not doing so bad, and I know it's terrible help, but all anyone can say to help is "just keep at it".

I', thinking of trying mild (not sure), mostly because I can't do WBTB; Once I'm out, I'm out cold( Sadly alarm clocks fail to wake me). I have tried listening to binaural beats, but because I sleep on my side 70% of the time, the earbuds start hurting. Basically my plan is I'm just going to take a week off, relax, and try giving Mild a go.

Learn autosuggestion first. If you want me to give you more detailed descriptions PM me because im about to log out now. :P

Get someone else to wake you up then. WBTB multiplys your potential a lot. You can remeber way more dreams and you are much more likely to get a lucid. If you don't have any other way of waking up then you should can use autosugestion to wake yourself up after every REM cycle even if you don't normaly wake up during the night.

Or use intention. It's what I used. Before, I used to sleep from 11-8, but before I went to bed I told myself, I need to wake up at 4:30. I imagined I needed to wake up to catch a flight. Only took me one night to actually wake up, and it became habit from there. I still do it, yet one night I totally forgot about it and the next night I woke up later. So you can cancel it out if you don't want to wake up.

things to consider:
-how is your dream recall? do you have a dream journal?
-how long do you sleep per night?
-as mentioned WBTB is key. use that motivation to come up with a louder alarm clock or some other way of making sure you wake up.
-you say "once im out, im out." why do you think you are sleeping so heavily? do you ever wake up to use the bathroom? lucidity depends on a certain level of mental arousal and if you are sleeping too deeply it will be a hindrance.

keep trying and you will get it!

That's the thing. I always got to the bathroom before I go to bed, I've made a habit of it, then I end up sleeping like a rock. I know what you're talking about when it comes to mental arousal, as I find around the morning time when I sleep in. There's a somewhat higher level of alertness still in my brain, where dreams feel more vivid.

Firebat, I was in your exact situation a few months ago. I was at the point of almost zero recall, I slept like a rock, and it seemed like nothing was working. Now I'm ~6 months in, and things are going great. I have had 2 lucids so far and my dream recall is improving a lot. Just be sure to keep at it, don't lose hope. Write in your Dream Journal EVERY DAY. Doesn't matter what you right or remember. Just make it something. Even if it has to be "I remember nothing". I have a habit of also recording the time that I sleep, just as a reference. It give me a reason to write. Be sure to read the forums every now and again as inspiration.

You can try MILD, as it really is just telling yourself that you are indeed going to lucid dream. Which you should be doing anyway. But I recommend getting used to Reality Checks. I find that the nose plug is the easiest, and the most reliable. Just be sure to have 2 or 3 in your arsenal. Identify dreamsigns and RC each time you see them. And last but not least, keep an eye out for anything weird or strange and then rc. By looking for weird things IRL, you will be able to identify them in your dreams.

Good luck, I'm 100% sure you will lucid dream if you follow the above tips and just keep at it. You can either give up and never lucid dream, or keep working at it so you will eventually have one.

Your putting too much stress into it. Believe me i felt exactly like you, demoralized, and you BADLY want this. :P just ..... try believing that you will lucid dream by repeating mantras to yourself,. or listen to binaural beats.

Try different techniques, mantras, visulization, spam yourself to make you think your a pro, confidence will help.

Drink a big glass of water before going to bed, you'll wake up.
