      Was This HI?

Today I tried to do a napping wild after I woke up. I was laying down with my face outwards, towards my room. I noticed that my eyes weren't moving, which was a first, AND felt real tired. All of the sudden, I saw this white blob on my eyelids. It moved, glided, to where my door is at, then it would start over again, I also though I saw my room, but my eyes were definitely closed. So, is this HI? I didn't feel like I had SP, by I could've, because I got he roll over feeling the same time I got the white thing.

      EDIT: Wow. . . . I shouldn't use my Ipod when I'm tired. . . . So much grammar and spelling errors!

It could have been a number of things. HI is possible, but it sounds like you were on the verge of lucid dreaming. It also could have been an OBE, a lot of times you will see yourself sleeping and/or your room when this happens. Next time test yourself to see if you have SP. Don't try any strenuous bodily movements, but just try to softly wiggle the tips of your fingers. If SP has set it, this won't be easy and you feel like a heavy blanket has been laid atop of you. This will be a sign that you're close to the HI/Lucid Dreaming phases.

Often you may think that your eyes are open when in fact they are closed and you are merely hallucinating. This can be tricky though, because you can in fact open your eyes while you are in SP. However opening your eyes takes a conscious choice and effort and probably won't just happen, so you can usually tell the difference between really having your eyes open, and only hallucinating that your eyes are open. The moving white thing sounds like HI, no doubt. What happened after this? Did you roll over? Wake up? Enter a dream? It's likely that you hadn't entered SP yet and were just having HI. But if you entered a dream directly after this, then you can assume you must have been in SP even if you didn't realize it.

Definitely wasn't an OBE...assuming you meant "it" instead of "I" when talking about how the white thing glided across your room.

Well, after I started seeing that, I rolled over, but I didn't really think about rolling over, I just, did. I was upset, cause I knew that SP was close.
And yeah, I meant "it". . . I fixed it, though XD

Well, my suggestion is keep on napping. This is how I first started having lucid dreams naturally.

Nap everyday if you can. Make sure it's early...within 4 hours of waking up in the morning, if possible. You won't have much REM if you nap in the evening. And give yourself an adequate amount of time to enter REM, so nap for a good 45 min - 1.5 hr.

I did have one secret weapon though which I think is what engendered my lucid dreaming and gave me a natural edge over others attempting to become lucid during naps.

It was a hypnagogic image. I think of them as the primordial ooze of dreams as our secondary visual cortices, the part of our brains that is active in imagining and dreaming, are getting ready to turn on. Next time you see the white blob tell yourself its a cloud. Your brain will do the rest.

I didn't mean to say that it was natural. It was ephedra. Which I think is now illegal, in the US. But it was the perfect drug for lucid dreaming. I'd take it and then go to sleep. When the drug kicked in half an hour later I would either be entering SP or already in the dream, and since it is a stimulant it would automatically increase my level of consciousness and make me lucid. However I had taken it for a year or so and was used to the effect, I'm sure if someone was new to taking it, then it would probably just make them wake up. I don't know if caffeine works similarly. I know that adderall does not.

Haha, well, don't think I'll be taking any drugs soon, and caffeine doesn't appeal to me, so I'm SOL there. I did get further than ever during my nap, so I'm going to try and continue to nap.

Good for you. Drugs are evil. Just say no.
