      REM Activated Tape

So, I watched "The Science of Sleep" the other night, and the one character creates a device once he hears about REM. Basically it is attached to his eyelids, and once he enters REM and his eyes are moving, it presses play on a pre-recorded tape that starts talking to him in his dream. Would something like this be possible to make? On the tape you could record yourself saying "Do a reality check" or something like that. I guess you could always just set an alarm clock to when you normally enter REM.

but has anyone done anything like this? I think it would be really effective.

I wouldn't think it'd be that effective. When I first started LDing, I'd play music while I slept that said "you're dreaming". Most of the time I never heard the voice at all, and the few times that I did, I ignored it. It's the same sort of thing when you're flying or doing impossible things in a dream - you don't acknowledge it because you're not conscious enough.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Yeah I guess so. and I too have listened to music a lot for awhile there. sometimes Id here like 10 songs in a row, other times nothing. Too bad though, it could be so easy all my LDs have just 'happened' no real preparation.

Yeah. I've made an mp3 where I do that. I tried my best to get attention. I pitch-shifted 8 notes down and said "Hey, faggot. Take a look around. Do a reality check or some shit."

Low pitched and obnoxious, thought it would get my attention.

      never has.

I got them all in a couple months. I was LDing 2-6 times a night on average.

I've had two (super short) LDs in the past year..

You can see where my attention went.

Now I struggle to even get a lucid dream.

Being on DV several hours a day certainly helped. Constant questioning. Just a lot of dedication. I didn't have to focus on school or anything much because Freshman year was easssyyy.

Once you get the habit down after a week it just rockets.

I just had a ten-fifteen minute long LD last night. for the most part clear. Good control of self and good awareness -- not so good manipulation though.

Excessive post whoring I think was the key. LOL.

Now i'm on a system of RCing every time I walk through a door. I also have a desktop that says "Am I dreaming?" and the big-ass alarm clock in my room seems to help. It's the only thing you can see at night, and it's one common RC... clocks.

Awesome!! and yeah that would do it. I'm doing RC a lot, but perhaps something lie that (a more structured check) would work better, I just check whenever I think of it But thats pretty awesome :O

here is an android app that can help you time your REM events and play back a message.
      http://www.dreamviews.com/f44/lucid-...n-beta-114113/

so far either my recordings wake me up or I do not hear / recognize them in the dream. i have however, thought of trying to dream scenarios and or sounds (like the beach or an animal sound) just to see if they show up in my dreams.

i believe in ETWOLD LaBerge tried this and the audio stimulus only showed up in like %20 of the dreams.

That app was developed by a DVer!

I use the Alarm Clock Plus android app and set alarms that shut themselves off after three seconds for WILDs, ones that never shut off for Recall and wake up

I think LaBerge did find it in only 20%. The issue is that your REM cycles could really be at any time of the night if you don't have a perfect sleep cycle.

That's why the NovaDreamer works, because it always does thing in REM, and has the optimized volume & brightness.

Yeah, I remember when I first started trying to LD, someone had an alarm that could play a 3second thing. the idea was to wake up, and then slip into a dream. the problem was it required me to leave the laptop on all night though it was weird, when I first tried it I had a dream immediately after waking up, where I was falling into quick sand. I believe it was a dream transition.

Look at the alarm clock plus android app! It does the same thing, just leave your phone plugged in.

      It's free.

my Nexus S slays the iPhone in every way shape and form and was $110 with a contract. You can get something like the LG Optimus for free, which I was going to get over the HTC Evo and Epic until I found the nexus.

Get the Alarm Clock Plus app to do your REM activated tape thing, as well as the DV-made LD app above.

and, Off topic, go launcher EX with black glass theme and a custom wallpaper, 4x5 configuration.

i find that the tech in the lucid dreaming app is better than the alarm clock plus, especially the way you can stagger and set up the alarm times. if you have fairly consistent to bed and awakening times your rem will be fairly consistent as well. i have found that mine is almost always in a +- 20ish min range with normal bed times.

also, recent studies suggest that there is actually quite a bit of dreaming in non REM stages. you could simply leave something on loop all night long, if you can put up with it.

I'm sure about anyone else here but I find technology just does the opposite for me. I can't sleep at all with binaural beats, REM detectors, etc. I just get to focused on them and I won't be able to sleep at all.

@zhine, yeah it sounds like it would be really good. Does the alarm work for you very well? Hpw many LDs have you had with it?
@Quant - I know what you mean lol. Sometimes I can sleep with music on, other times it distracts me so much. Last night something weird happened while I was trying to sleep, I was entering sleep paralysis maybe, not sure. I dont even really know what happened, but I suddenly lifted my body up and I felt all weird lol. I did an RC though and I was awake. But sometimes I just cant sleep because of how distracted I get
