      Whats the perfect Mantra?

I have been using a mantra for almost a week now, and I think it's what got me my first lucid. The other methods I was using were WBTB and MILD, but those are fine for me right now.

      My current mantra is
"Dream characters tell me when I'm dreaming"

I figure that if I remember that, then Dream characters will come up to me and tell me I'm dreaming, so I don't have to rely on myself noticing dreamsigns, as I never do lol.
However it's been 4 nights already and it hasn't really worked. I have been saying them for 50% of the day and all the time until I fall asleep, I mean seriously, I fall asleep thinking it, and imagining it happening. I'm just thinking maybe theres a better way or something I'm missing.

What are the key points about mantras? I know they have to be present tense and easy to understand, but what else defines a good mantra?

Does anyone have a mantra that really works for them?

I find that mantras are just like reality checks. You have to concentrate on what the words mean/what you are doing. If you believe that DC's will tell you that you're dreaming, then they will. Mantras are all about influencing your subconscious, and it picks up if you're not 100% sure of what you're thinking. In my experience, any negativity towards a mantra makes it not work.

Your current mantra should work fine, it all seems to be good in terms of how you're saying it. So just focus on what you really mean, visualize it each time, and it will work.

Well a mantra alone isn't a realiable method to induce LDs. The MILD method implies that you need do wake up after a dream then do it. Just a mantra before bed isn't much.

I don't recommend the dream character one, maybe "I will notice my dream signs". When you say that over and over you'll have a better chance of noticing them.

Actually, when I am trying to lucid dream, awareness through the day and a mantra before bed is a fairly reliable way to lucid dream. Certain things will work for certain people.

I would try a mantra that doesn't involve dream characters or the dream changing for you. Try to create something about becoming lucid or awareness. They key is to use a mantra that you like the sound of.

Hm... okay, maybe a a simple "I will reality check"? Or maybe "Reality check"? Could they be simple commands like that?

I could try "I will notice my dreamsigns", but I don't have much confidence in my dreamsigns, I dream of them nearly every night, and all my dreams are full of dreamsigns, but I never pick up on them. Is having lots of dreamsigns a good thing for that mantra, or is not noticing all those dreamsigns a bad thing for it?

I say mantras all through the day, and after I wake up for a MILD. Basically all the time, except when I have to concentrate on something.

No need to be pushy. The first two mantras you listed sound fine. Noticing dream signs makes lucid dreaming easier.

never ever ever ever use the word 'will' in a mantra, that implies future, and we want present.

Yeah, I read about that and I know to put it into the present, as well as not making it too ambiguous.

Since all of my dreams are in strange places and always have a strange plot, I'm trying to come up with a mantra that helps me notice this.

Yeah, typo. I just spent the last hour or so napping and thinking "I do reality checks in my dreams".

This should translate into my dreams tonight, after I get up for my WBTB.

Alternate your mantra night by night you should never say the same phrase or sentence because it gets boring and repetitive after a while. In other words have a different mantra with the same goal in mind..... lucidity. Turn it in to a gm find creative ways to think "Dream characters tell me when I'm dreaming" every night. It also helps to say your mantra in a rhythm or melody because then it becomes a catchy chorus or hook that you cant help but repeat consciously and subconsciously when you are awake or sleeep. Deepen your meditative state try to go 5mins, 10mins 20mins, 30 mins before bed. The longer you go the more enjoyable the experience and the less important time becomes. Try to do your mantras and fall asleep when your awareness is atleast 90%, dont do them when your dog tired. namaste.

"when you fall unconscious, what your mind expresses is a dream.
When you are aware, what your mind expresses is creativity. It creates your life.
When you are in a higher state of consciousness, it not only creates the life of whatever you want, but also on whom ever you want". -LifeBlissFoundation

      Well balls...

Ok, I've been saying "I do reality checks in my dreams" today, not that much though, maybe 20 minutes collectively. So should I keep this up tonight, and then tomorrow start a new one? At this rate I have actually been saying 3 different mantras over 3 days.

Before I go to bed tonight; what should I do with mantras?

Tonight just keep alternating them but make sure the mantra is personal to your experience or they can just become words with no meaning behind them. What I like to do is point out dream signs from the previous night that I missed and develope a short mantra that reaffirms that I won't miss it a again. The more specific the mantra is to your previous experience the better I think. That's why it must change day to day. Tonight try to time your meditation session I'm not a veteran with meditation but I have gone as long as 30mins. And felt like only 5 mins passed. Test your meditation thresh hold.

So I meditate, while doing a mantra that reflects and addresses a missed dream sign or something that I missed, or don't want to miss?

My dream signs are usually military related stuff. So do I meditate that "When I see tanks and helicopters, I will know I'm dreaming"?

Yes meditate (mantra) on the most common things that surrounds your dream environment, every single military detail you can remember. You do this by journaling but more specifically by meditating right after you wake up. You'll find yourself remembering previous dream scenes that you normally would of forgot. In regards to recognizing dream signs its possible that when you see a military helicopter you'll go lucid but its more likely that your dream sign will be a variation of that helicopter, you may see fighter jets, military bombers, or remote surveillance planes. Your mantra should be specific to theses elements if you ever do come across them.

      Ok, so I need to address my dream signs in my mantra, so when I see them in dreams I will go lucid. But since I have many dreamsigns (all the different things military related), how do I tailor a short and easy to remember mantra do these? Or do I say multiple ones like;

      "I recognize tanks as dreamsigns"
      "I recognize choppers as dreamsigns"
      "I recognize weapons as dreamsigns"
One after the other, after I wake up in my WBTB MILD? I think this is what you are trying to say.

When I MILD the best mantra for me is "If I can lucid dream tonight I will" and tell myself that if I don't lucid dream tonight there is no way that I could have in any other way.

My favorite mantra is "my life depends on remembering these dreams" you might think it crazy, but it works wonders for me!
