      DEILD help?

I'm trying DEILD right now, had a go last night, it didn't work.

I woke up, and I think I moved maybe a little bit, or opened my eyes for a second. But then I layed still, eyes shut, and then I felt a cramp up my right side and little vibrations for about 4 seconds, then nothing.

I thought I was supposed to slip into a dream then and whoop dee doo, lucid.

What did I do wrong? Why didn't it work?

Does anyone have any tips for DEILD?

Also, I ate a banana before bed. I dunno.

I do it sometimes. It seems to be hit or miss. Depending on where you are in your sleep cycle, you may not have any dreams to return to. It works best if you feel your dream was interrupted for whatever reason. If you wake directly from a dream, are woken by your dog barking, an alarm, ect. Did you feel like you ended up being completely awake? Or in some other stage of sleepiness?

The dream seemed to just end, without any sort of conclusion. There rarely is, but this one was in the middle of something. When I woke up, it was pretty early, and I was fairly awake. Like I could have just lay in until morning maybe, though I probably would have fallen back asleep. I could have stayed awake easily.

I do! I'm not sure I can give much advice since I never really "tried" and my first time was by accident.

But I just left this on another post so I guess I could post it here too:

For me, it's a really odd experience. It sort of goes like this:
I begin waking up from an LD and once I realise I'm in my bed, obviously I don't move, but I don't think about not moving and I don't think about my breathing or anything either. I don't even think about the dream too much, it just rests at the back of my mind. Both times I did it after that, it felt like it wasn't going to work or maybe that I was too awake, but all of a sudden I found myself back inside the dream.

I don't even notice myself going back to sleep or being taken there, it's really strange...

      Keep trying!
For me, something like this is effortless, maybe I can finally say I'm a natural at something?

Are you trying to DEILD from an LD or just a normal dream? All three times I''ve done it, have been from an LD but I've never tried from a normal dream since it doesn't ever cross my mind for some reason after I wake up from one.

Maybe it's because you opened your eyes a bit or moved?

I do... if done correctly, it's much easier and reliable than WILD.
You just need some time to adjust to the "wake up as soon as the dream ends", anything waking you up artificially is way less effective.

Did you stop breathing or "freeze" when you remembered not to move? Changing your breathing pattern can kill a DEILD attempt; most of my own failures come from that. Visualizing a dream (be it new or the one you just woke from) can help if you feel like you need to do something extra to get back in the dream. And like Robot Butler said, sometimes you just don't end up DEILDing at the right time. You might be at the end of a REM cycle, for instance.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Just this, try not to freak out over breathing. and try visualizing.

I did open my eyes but only for a second as I went "Oh shit, keep them closed for DEILD". I didn't move, maybe a little twitch but nothing more. My breathing didn't change I don't think, and I didn't panic either. I think it' might just have been at the wrong time of night. I read up on REM, and I think mine had just finished, so I woke up as soon as my last dream ended, so I was out of time.

I'm going to try again tonight, going to wake up naturally (Iv decided) and not move. Then there is no reason why it shouldn't work.

Every DEILD I've done has been an attempt at lucid recovery. Whenever I'm lucid and notice that I'm about to wake up, I relax, and remind myself not to move. Then I can slip back into the dream. I usually just "feel around" until I get a tugging sensation, and them I'm jerked upwards into a dream world, or an environment forms. However, I can never remember to remain still from non-lucid dreams-- I need to be conscious before waking.

Yeah, thats what it's mainly used for, but I'm trying it as it's so simple, yet I'm also doing R.C.s as well. They can be used with anything, so why not do them?
