Very nearly got lucid...twice in one dream?

Hmm, so last night I had a dream (which is in my dream journal on DV btw) and at one point I saw a ringwraith (lord of the rings dudes) and I sort of, twigged that I was dreaming? Like, usually I would have been scared or whatever but I was just like 'ahh it doesnt matter, this can't be real' and I think I may have been lucid for about 2 seconds before losing it. Then later in the dream I stabbed someone (following the plot of the dream, don't worry, I'm not a psycho) and the guy made a joke as he went down, which again made me question reality, and I think I was lucid for a few seconds again. Just basically wondering, if this is the stage I'm at now, how long do I have to wait til' my first lucid!??!? I really want to have a fully lucid dream but I've been trying FOREVER... thanks.

I often have these 'flirts' with a lucid dream. It is not uncommon at all. If you have never had a full-on lucid dream before then it is easy to psych yourself out when you first DILD. Over time you will relax and take it easy when it happens. The best (and longest) LD's I have had in my life are when not much is going on to over-stimulate me. You will get there. -

Pretty much the same thing happened to me last night. Two instances where I sort of noticed that this was a dream, and it felt different to regular dreams, almost like I wasn't fully into the dream, but I was in it, and both times I pretty much figured out this was a dream, but couldn't/didn't do anything about it.

I'm going to just do the same thing I did last night again tonight.

It's still VERY early yet for you. I have been practicing since April, and only last night did I have anything you could remotely call lucid or semi lucid. Where you are now, not having had a lucid is expected. Give it 2-3 months (the average), and if you still have not had one, make it your goal to really step up your efforts. The only mistake you can make is stopping to take a break or easing off. What will that achieve? Nothing compared to what you can achieve if you keep at it.

I wish someone had told me this, straight out, when I was at your stage. What you had last night was a step forward, even if it wasn't what you wanted, it's a step forward.

Yeah I actually started trying in January, but I stopped in Febuary out of impatience, and now I'm back as of 3 days ago

Yes, yes I will, thank you mr. butler

yeah origami but I've only been actively trying from jan-feb and then from 3 days ago, so, ya'know, its not really that long, I figure giving up for so long set me back to square one

Giving up for 3 days set me back to square one. I took a break and did nothing for three days- all my dreams shriveled up to nothing, and I even slept worse too. You really have to go all out at it, or not at all.
That being said "all out" isn't the best choice of words. You can "over-try" to become lucid. You just need to be steady, confident, and unwavering in your attempts. How to do that, however, is up to you. I can't just tell you how to be confident.

Just keep at it, keep trying every night and eventually you must succeed.
