do i wake when i think of lucid dreaming?

ok so iv been keeping a dream diary for about a week now.

iv noticed that a few times iv stopped in my dream and thought "hey...this is like a lucid dream" but as soon as i try and do a reality check im kinda sucked out of it and i feel like im laying in my bed with my eyes firmly shut trying to hang onto the dream...but...iv never actually opened my eyes and got up or anyting similar!

so am i waking up and going back to sleep immediatly, or is it a false awakening stopping me every time?

Well you are most likely getting over excited and waking up. The best solution would be to reality check again after this happens and see if you had a false awakening.

Do you think about your physical body or waking life when you realize you're dreaming? If so, try to avoid that as much as possible, distracting yourself by focusing on the dream world. Touch objects, look around, repeat "I am dreaming, this is a dream" to yourself... Waking up prematurely can also be an indication of over-excitement, as Zebrah said. If this is the case, chill and try to relax, again focusing on the dream.

And yes, if you wake up, be sure to do a reality check - sometimes when you're in a lucid and you know you're losing the dream, your mind will fashion a dream that just looks like you've woken up.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

This happens to me a lot when i think "i dont want to get up". Then when this happens i just go into a DEILD and its all good.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

argh! it happened a 3rd time last night....although this time i managed to do a reality check in the dream. id recieved something that was too good to be true and thought id try the nose-pinch check and could still breath...then i got all excited and woke up tryed the check again and was defo awake.

whats worse is that id been asleep for 8 hours and couldnt get back to sleep! do i just have to hope it a) happens earlier in my dream cycle and b) i can stay calm when it happens?
