I've never gotten an urge to close my eyes in a lucid dream. Common techniques for remaining in the dream:
- Don't get excited, don't think about the fact that you're lucid dreaming too much.
- Immerse your senses in the dream world. Rubbing your hands works well, as does feeling your surroundings, looking at the details around you, spinning, etc. (Jumping into a pool of water and swimming worked really well for me recently.) The only problem with these methods is that they seem to stop working as soon as you stop doing them.
- Some people say that not trying to take control right away, and instead 'pretending' that they're not lucid and continuing on with what they were doing in the dream before, helps.
And to stay more consistent, I guess you just have to do better with your lucidity methods. Maybe you're doing fine and your lucid dreams will become more frequent with time, or maybe you need to do more reality checks or have a better reality check method, or try to think about lucid dreaming more in the day, or visualize yourself becoming lucid in a dream you just had.
