A Lucid Dreaming Toolkit

So I've been browsing the forums, looking at techniques, aids, etc etc....

And I'm wondering, does anyone have a Lucid Dreaming toolkit?

-Like a set of tools that you use each night, every night, to try and get you lucid.
-Could be mantras, WILDing, breathing practice, meditation, anything.

If you do, it'd be really helpful if you could just, write it all down!

Basically, write down what you do before you go to bed. I know WBTB is probably one of the better techniques, but its not personally practical since i run @ 5 in the morning and sleep @ 10.

- I do quite a few reality checks throughout the day
- Before i go to bed, i use a pretty good relaxation technique. Imagine al the energy draining from your body and flowing towards a dot on the middle of your forehead. Keep doing that. You will start to feel like there's a finger pushing against that spot. I usually do this for 5 minutes or so.
- When I'm in bed, I repeat the mantra 'I will realize that I'm dreaming' Just thinking the words won't be enough, you have to mean them.
- I keep a dream journal. I don't keep it on this site though. i use a notebook IRL.

Hm, I did try the reality checks for a while but then my friends caught on and it became useless as they teased me nonstop.
The visualization... i believe that's your 6th chakra then? I think I've tried that before.
Mantra sounds good to me :]

Well thanks for the help! I'll pick up with the reality checks again, try the mantra, and try the visualization again.

Quick question, last night I tried a WBTB + a WILD. I woke up @ 4, stayed awake for 10 min, then went back to bed and lied still until my body went pretty much numb. But then I fell asleep!!!
What did I do wrong? Why didn't I drift into the dream?

For me, aspects of the ritual change every night. It's usually a combination of some or all of:

- Making sure my Dream Journal and my EWLD book are beside my bed
- Drinking some Mugwort tea and placing it beside the bed
- Making sure my B6 is beside the bed
- iPhone ready with a few applications I use, earbuds in
- Repeating mantra as I drift off, affirming I will wake up after the first or second cycle.

But, I'm not lucid yet, so.. ya. Not an expert by any stretch of the imagination.

As for your WILD attempt, I hope you get some advice from a dream guide, but I expect it has to do with not having a suitable anchor to keep your consciousness from shutting down. Did you use any anchor methods, like counting or concentrating on your breath?

For me the process is the same every night, doesn't often give lucids but I can very reliably remember 4 or 5 dreams a night:

-First I get my DJ and write the date and put it besides my bed with a pen, I also record the time so I can see how far into my sleep my cycles end.
-Next I recount the events of the day in my mind, I find it helps to get me in a rememberish mood.
-I go to sleep while constantly going over the thought of waking up after each dream and remembering it, I change the wording each time so that its not just completely mindless.
-When I wake up I first lay still and go over my dream in my head, once I have it clear in my head I check the time and record my dream as quick notes in my DJ.
-After I wake up for the final time I will go over the notes and write up the dreams fully.

This is usually effective for me. Although I guess different things work for different people the key is to experiment with different things until you find something that works.

i was thinking of doing something similar by putting up guides and reminders etc in posters on my walls. i already have put up a lot of pics of my dreamsigns in my room, but some proper reminders of the techniques that have been succesful would be a great help. the amount of things i have tried is massive so i am always forgetting some of the simpler techniques that really work

What was your reality check that your friends noticed? Mine is just looking at my watch a few times, I don't think anybody notices. It's actually funny, sometimes when people ask me what time it is (they know I always wear a watch) I'll say like "10:30" if its 10:30) look again and say "still 10:30...this isn't a dream" they just laugh then walk away awkwardly :D

I just read something, look away for a second then read it again. You should keep up with the reality checks though even if you get teased for it because they work well. (PS your friends dont know what they are missing out on!)
