      Urge to move

I'm normally a back/side sleeper, but when attempting to LD I try to sleep on my back. For about fifteen minutes everything seems to be going well, I'm focused on my mantra and visualization of a dream. But then I always have an urge to move, scratch, change position, etc. I try hard to ignore it and remain still, but after an hour of not falling asleep I tend to say "f**k it" and roll over and go to sleep, and I can never maintain a focus in any other position because I fall asleep quicker. Anyone have similar problems?
      goals:
      have a lucid dream [x]
maintain lucidity for more than ten seconds [x]
      fly [ ]
talk to Stevie Ray Vaughan and learn his left-hand muting guitar technique [ ]

I guess everyone does. It's normal. And when that happends, that's when you're suppose to stay in that posstion to get into SP. No pain no gain, right.
It's the brain that tests' if your body is asleep or not, so just ignore it and then brain will think it's asleep and begin the HI.

This happens to me every time I try to WILD, that's why I don't do WILD's. I personally like DILD's a lot more.

yeah, that's the roll signal your body sends to see if you're mine is awake.
I've never gained SP through a WILD, personally, I am too impatient to do a WILD.
I tried one this morning, and I felt heavy (not in SP yet) and I was getting a VERY strong roll signal, it was quite painful, but I rolled over
I'm too impatient for this xD

That roll signal thing is a total load of horsepoop and if you think about it logically it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

That said though, I have heard you're not supposed to move much to WILD, guess you just gotta suck it up. Probably easier to do after 4-6 hours of sleep as well.

I think the actual act of staying still even with an urge to move is correct, but the "science" explaining it is dumb.

In other words, it works, but not for the reasons given.

right, I actually had a DILD last night it was fairly long, I DILD often, but I just can never do a WILD right
I like to set alarms at random hours of the night, i can recall up to like 5 dreams by doing that.
what do you do when you WILD? when do you go to bed? I usually have dreams I can remember after about 5 hours of sleep

I used to think the same but the other night I tried it and my hands started feeling all tingly and weird. I guess you just gotta keep trying and trying and one day it'll happen. I'd say try for a DILD but give WILDs a shot too on the off chance it ends up working. Couldn't hurt right?

I haven't successfully WILD'd yet but when I try I do it by getting up about 5 hours after going to bed, getting a small drink, taking a piss, then laying in bed as still as I can for as long as I can keeping my mind preoccupied by thinking of random stuff. I always impatient out though and stop, I'll have to keep practicing.

yeah, I tried again this morning
got impatient, and i just tried it cause I couldn't get to sleep
but now that the weekend is over, I have to wake up at 6 for school, and I'm gonna have to find a good time to go to bed on school nights so I can set an alarm for 5 hours after sleep so I can try to WILD, and still have a while before I have to get ready for school, but the thing is I cannot go to bed early because I usually go to bed at like 2 or later.
so what time do you go to bed, try to WILD, and normally wake up?

This roll over signal thing hurts to read. In my opinion it makes no sense. I get uncomfortable in class when I have to sit in a chair for two hours. I want to get up so bad. I guess that's my body testing to see if I'm awake. -_-

Anyways, it shouldn't matter what happens to your body. Just be comfortable and try to sleep. (While keeping minimal awareness)

Lol, it just bothers me to seem some people believe that. I'll admit, it does work for some people, lots of them have posted success stories. However, the people that fail at staying completely still and getting frustrated, need to realize that it's ok to move or swallow or scratch something. (Thats what she said).

In my case, I seriously can NOT fall asleep unless I move a bunch of times. Like really, if I stay in the same position I remain awake. Every time I switch positions, I feel myself drift more and more.

xD nice thats what she said.
and yeah, I agree, I think it works for me either way, what works best for me, when trying to WILD
is lay on my back, still and relaxed for 10minutes or so THEN go onto my side
I naturally, usually, sleep on my side on a normal night, so that's a comfy position for me, or my hands behind my head
i think for WILDing it's best to be comfy, so you can relax better

Nice. I think Robot_Butler does something similar. He relaxes on his back then switches to his side... Needless to say, he's really good at WILD.

      Well...
From what I know, the preferred position is lying on your back....
If you lie on your normal sleeping position, you just might fall asleep too fast

Yeah I've sorta lost interest in the traditional WILD ever since I almost DEILD'd the other night.

Honestly, it's hard to tell. The last time I did it, I remember seeing total darkness, and then all of a sudden I was in this laboratory full of other people, and I was fully lucid. I didn't force the dream, it just came up by itself. It's hard to tell you EXACTLY what happened. My recall sucks!

Alright from what I gather, after a dream ends you wake up naturally but rarely notice it because it's quick and you're not very coherent during this time. After this point you'd naturally move into a new dream or go into a deep sleep until waking up for real. But, if you can train yourself to recognize this state in which you've somewhat awoken (you see the insides of your eyelids as they are closed and can somewhat feel that you are lying in bed), you have to not move and then try to visualize the last dream you just had (it will be fresh in your memory since your brain will still be in a dream-like state), you will then formulate the dream and reenter but be lucid this time. It sounds weird and hard but it's supposed to be almost the easiest way to LD after you get the hang of it.

The key is not to move and not to wake your mind up out of that dream state, if you do that it's over but if you don't then you're almost 100% guaranteed an LD.
