Oh, wait.
^^ :P You, quiet.
Okay so I bought my DS and R4 card and all, super cheap, and the guy at the store downloaded most of the games I wanted for me. Now I have a question... How the heck do these companies make money if downloads are SOOO readily available? I just googled it and got tons of sites with free downloads. I didn't even have to like piratebay.org it or Ares it or anything. I'm confused. :?
the majority of people either dont know about it, dont know how to do it, cant be bothered, or dont want to do illegal things, so thats how companies still make money. but music on the other hand, i have no idea how they make loads of money on that when the majority of people download illegally.
anyway, personally, i would have gotten the DSi, much better value, and much more fun. but i suppose the gadget stuff is more of a guy thing.
Indeed, would you have known about it had I not told you? I only learnt through a friend myself. Still though, once you go R4, there's no turning back.
Well, Mes, just letting you know that by getting an R4 card you've answered your own question.
R4 cards have been outlawed so many different places, specifically in the U.S., but since what the R4 does is illegal, take it further, incredibly illegal, all of the games you download don't give profit to the companies who make the software. Some game companies are fine off, take for instance, the Pokemon series. Those things sell like hotcakes, so downloading a ROM of that game isn't going to hurt the company. But downloading games can sometimes prevent sequels from coming out.
If not enough copies are sold, it is hard to push a sequel for a game that isn't profitable. No one will publish it, which in the long run, honest people who pay for their games and want a sequel won't get them because of people who find loopholes.
Don't get me wrong, I've downloaded ROMs for NES, SNES, N64, and so on, but not current systems. If an R4 card was a rare thing to come by, and only had a handful of ROMs available at download, it wouldn't be such a bad thing. But it has recently come to light, and let's just say, no one likes someone with an R4 card, officially. U.S. stopped allowing importing of R4 cards, and it is very easy to get arrested for doing that, since it's very illegal.
Not going to beat a dead horse here, but the DS sofware market is suffering a tad from R4 cards, and you may be a little naive here, but since Goldney is like.. what, 13, and has no respect for people who develop games, and would kindly rip a fucking dollar or two off them, without knowing it's really hurting the company, you do get some leniencey. Not trying to preach, but heed my words of advice. If you really like a game, buy it. Don't just download it. Download games that you might think about playing, but for God's sake, don't download every game. You're not only not being honest, but you're straight up stealing. You wouldn't steal in person, would you?
So don't do it on the internet.
Fucking... pirates.
I had no idea R4 cards are rare in the US!!
I went to the most famous electronics market here in Korea, and my DS came with an R4 card, and the guy at the counter took a few minutes to download about 50 games for me before handing me my purchase.
So, I am certainly feeling guilt-free, and will not be paying for a DS game.
But that's not to say that your stance isn't noble or wrong or anything like that, Amaze...
Like I said, you're not from the U.S. right now, but R4 cards have been outlawed here. I don't exactly what the laws are about R4 cards are in Korea, but it doesn't stop the fact that by not purchasing their games, you are hurting the company and effectively giving them the finger, even though they are making these wonderful games for you.
And Goldney, I will not marry you.
Rofl. I leave for (checks last post) well... 4 days and there's a marrige proposal?!?!? lol
If you like RPGs, check out The World Ends With You. Also grab the Phoenix Wright series if you love a good story.
Gah! I dropped my ds and one of the hinges broke. It still works but the top screen is kinda loose.... Guess I have my reason to buy ds lite now.......
Also, if you want games that really utilize the DS' features, try:
Elite Beat Agents
Trauma Center: Under The Knife
Wario Ware: Touched!
Be warned that Trauma Center is likely to make you swear at your DS is fits of rage because of its difficulty. It's an awesome game though.
