Tell me about: Vancouver

I've been feeling myself drawn to Vancouver(British Columbia, Canada) for about a year now, and I'm thinking of going to school up there when I finish my Associates degree at the community college I'm at now.

Tell me everything about Vancouver, from the colleges to the culture.
What's fun to do there?
How is the cost of living?
What's the best school?
How is public transportation(and the costs of it)?
Are jobs easy to find?
Where's the best neighborhood for a college student on a budget, that's into the hippie/rock/art/drug scene, to live?
What's the weather like?(personal opinions, I hate reading stats)
I know BC is the bud capital of Canada, but how easy/difficult is it to find other shamanic drugs(mushrooms, mescaline, peyote, LSD, etc.)?

And anything else you can add about the city.

i lived in vancouver in kindergarten so i do't remember much. It's a nice place. has a huge chinatown, if your into that sort of thing.

you can find mushrooms and LSD. mushrooms grow in b.c. very well during the season. don't know about peyote. Your best bet is to make Native indian friends and participate in their sweat lodges I have heard that some of them like to sweat under peyote but that's just a rumor.

I dig Chinatowns, I went to Toronto's once and was blown away by the size... are they close in comparison?

I did a sweat lodge on mescaline once... it was very cleansing(spiritually, physically and emotionally), and I recommend it to everyone looking for an experience like that.

If you're a city boy, just about everything. I live in the suburbs about half an hour away and I can do just about anything; whether it be jumping on a bus and going down to Vancouver to shop or drink or see movies or whatever. There's never not something to do.

It's pretty expensive here. You won't have much trouble finding a place though. Get a roommate and things should be fine... I'm planning on moving out in a year and I think I'll be good to go (I'm only eighteen).

Broad question. There's too many, because whatever school you choose it will have its benefits. BCIT - British Columbia Institute of Technology, the school known predominantly for trades and film/video/television stuff and highly reputable. 95% of students there graduate with a career because people headhunt for young blood (oh, and lots of courses are only two years). There's UBC, a very 'up-there' school, prestigous and requires good grades or a transfer program to get in, large classrooms but also largely reputable.

One of the best bus systems I've seen in all of the lower mainland. Buses are generally always on time, and you can get just about everywhere via Skytrain or Seabus too. $2.50 fare for each ride, or you can purchase packets of 10 bus tickets for $19, or get a month long pass for $73 (incredibly worth it, I have one).

Very, Vancouver is thriving and is in need of people to keep the steady. As long as your work ethic is good you shouldn't have a problem.

Incredibly gorgeous summers, very hot not too humid perfect (was still hot at the end of this last September). Semi-cold autumns with lots of rain (colder when the sun is out). Occasionally freezing and really snowy winters that last way too long or no-snow winters at all (our last winter lasted from December to March or April...) Spring is really nice too.

I can get just about everything. They sell mescaline and peyote in the Vapour Lounge downtown off Hastings, the smokeshop. Just talk to me. ;)

I love every aspect about Vancouver and the area I live in. There isn't a day I'm not thankful that I'm here. It's gorgeous, there's plenty to do, the women are incredible, the people are incredible, and very modern. I love it.

Yeah I've been looking at both BCIT, UBC and VFS(Vancouver Film School)

Does the month pass work in SkyTrain and SeaBus or are those separate fees?

Month pass works for everything. I got my first monthly pass this November and it's probably one of the best purchases I've ever made.
