      Smile Ask me about singing

      Yeah a topic about singing.

I've been addicted to singing for my whole life. I'd spend all my afternoons trying to make anything slightly sounding musical, and I enjoyed it so much. I foudn it delighting to hear a good voice, and was amazed at what such beautiful instrument humans naturally have.

So I researched a bit on singing exercises, techniques, hints and whatnot. Today, I can sing past the soprano C, even though I do have an extremely low voice type. I have learned to recognise notes and to reproduce them using my voice. I have learned how singing "feels" and how delighing it can be.

Singing it is. Ask me anything - chest and head voice, falsetto, high falsetto, vibrato, warmups, exercises and whatever boggles your mind. I'm all ears

Do you take exams? Some people have A-levels in singing.

No, unfortunately I don't take exams, first because it's pretty much a hobby, and second because we don't have A-levels in Brazil.

Have you made any recordings of your singing?

      Sorry.
I'll ask another question and you can swipe my original.

How long did it take you to get past the soprano C?

      Working on it

In fact I did have a file on my comp with my whistle register, but I really must've deleted it.

Was back when my cousin had a project of a CD for college.. She had to master a CD in a studio, and she invited me to sing a few songs for it. You just CAN'T believe how funny it is to be in a studio xD I'd burst out laughing and be unable to go on

EDIT: Just saw your next quesiton Vexy.

I found out how to do a high falsetto/whistle register like, some months ago (?). I also found it amazing that I discovered it on my own (that's why I say and repeat: the whistle register is not a gift few have, it is a singing technique anyone can master). So a whistle register can easily go past a soprano C. I can sing higher than all my female cousins using it xD (sounds gay, I know)

I know this is a dead thread, so sorry for rezzing it. I was going to create a thread because I have a question and saw this one.

My natural singing voice hits the range of Plain White T's song "1, 2, 3, 4". It's been getting easier for me to hit higher notes though. I LOVE the song "Jar of Hearts". I can hit most of the notes, but I've noticed my jaw REALLY starts hurting before the song is over. Why? I also get tension headaches because of the vocal strain. They don't last much longer than the song though. It's something I feel immediately.
Do I need to gradually try and build my range? I'm almost 37 years old. I have a decent singing voice, but it's not something I'd spend a lot of time on. I sing all the time though, I usually change the octaves of the songs

      Any tips?

well you certainly shouldn't rush into it. you're in no hurry, as you said. take it slowly and don't force anything. warm up before trying any song you strain on (or singing at all) and find someone to sing with. bounce voices off each other, and let each other know when you're in/out of it.

      Thanks
What do you mean though by "let each other know when you're in/out of it"?

I talked to my daughter and her friend, and they said the jaw pain is also from vocal strain. Hmmmm...

      **EDIT**
I re-read the top post on this page. I can sing "vibrato" easily. I don't understand how others find it difficult. When I was 7 years old, I heard a singer do it, and I copied it in music class. The teacher fell in love and I was given solo's in school plays after that.
Being nervous helps achieve a perfect vibrato now-a-days lol, though now-a-days, I RARELY ever sing around people who make me nervous. I'm very self-conscious about my voice.

But I'm guilty of "The final aspect of singing is the ability to reproduce a note. Some people screw their singing by getting too excited and singing a note higher than it would be, or by fearing that they will not be able to reproduce a specific high note and therefore making others lower to make up for it. That's why singing songs that are within yoru range is important - although singing songs that are slightly out of your reach can greatly help you to expand your range."

I can easily change the octaves of songs I like if I'm singing without music, but to sing along with the radio, I have to keep pitches true (for the most part) in order for it to sound right. Which led to my current question

In Middle School/High School, I was always placed with the Alto's. My singing voice can be quite manly rofl. I've always hated that fact. The sopranos always have the best songs

Talking Im pretty Good at singing

Not to toot my own horn or anything but ive been in choir my whole life and won many Superior group awards at music festivals along with my mens choir which was about 4 people. I have my own band called All In Karma and although I admit it decent, My choral voice is much deeper, clearer and much richer in tone than my band singing, I have a pretty great range for a Beritone Singer

Here is an example of one of our rough originals in acoustic:
They aint perfect but ahh you catch my drift :]
