Has anyone had this surgery to correct your vision or know someone who has? |

About five years ago, I was listening to a radio show while driving in my car, and they said that the surgery would produce excellent results... and then your vision would take a permanent plunge for the worse in a decade or so. I don't know if this was ever true, or whether they've made significant improvements since then (I'm sure they have, in any case)... but be very careful if you're considering this. |

True. Besides, glasses are sexy. |
|
I have heard and read nothing but good things about this procedure. |

Does anyone know how costly it is? |

Glasses are quite sexy. The fashionable kind, anyway. |

I have both glasses and contacts and I too would rather wear them forever before losing my vision at any time! |

I know the government doesn't have faith in it, because they don't let you fly a plane if you've had it. |

Definitely go into the office prepared with your questions. Doctors have a way of thinking that people don't need to hear all of the information. They especially believe this about women. Be aware that the US's healthcare system is way more expensive than anywhere else, and it is not anywhere near among the best out there. Just things to keep in mind when you go in for a procedure that could have some real risks. |

Both my Mom and my Uncle have had it done. My Mom is very happy with the results, and I don't know about my uncle, but I assume he's also happy. |

Yeah, well the government does alot of weird things. You're not allowed to be a sniper in the army unless you have 20/20 vision. End of story. |

You do this every fucking time.
No sweat.
No tears.
No guilt.
You do this every fucking time.

I`m not sure about the civil rules, I know they clear your medical if you can correct your eyes to 20/20 with lenses, but I`m not sure about surgery. In the military though, anything but pure 20/20 is a no-no, even if you have perfect eyesight after the surgery they won`t clear your medical. |
|
By the way, 20/20 just means average eyesight. People who don't understand what the numbers actually mean have a tendency to think that it means superior kick ass eye sight. |
|
A friend from work got the surgery done. He's pretty happy with it. I can't really comment on long term effects (nobody can, when you think about it), but I can comment on his recovery (normal recovery, not problematic): |
|
There`s also that other eye surgery (PRK I think it`s called?), you can compare the two. I also found out that the surgery can interfere with night vision, which is probably why it`s frowned upon in the aeronautical community. |
|
I'd be tempted if it was 100% risk free. Being blind is no fun. |
