Tell me about Daoism

I've been really interested in the philosophical base of Daoism for the past few weeks, but it has been hard to really get a good grasp of the discipline due to the amount of contradictory material out there. Can anyone offer me a good starting point, or suggest any readings? Thanks

Try 'opening the dragons gate, the making of a taoist wizard'. Think its by Thomas Cleary. I have to list this one because the story is just so good. You will pick up the philosophical stuff almost by accident just following the true account of someones apprenticeship.
