      Lucid seeker, Great topic.

      I think that we need to separate the two, adrenaline and sports at least briefly to understand the idea as a whole.

      Adrenaline is a natural process of or bodies to function in a time of priority. A chemical release to let the flood gates go and pour out the chemicals to provide your body with the essential capabilities to carry out unseemingly unnatural acts.

      Participating in sports at any level can introduce or induce the same scenario to your mind and body. As if to build the situation into a frenzy, your body reacts as if it is in a flight or fight situation. Although a game. I guess in some manners it is. Win or loose!

      The best part. Although it can happen at any level, there are two entirely different outcomes.
      Practice makes perfect.
      When an individual in well practiced in a variety of, competitive in nature like scenarios they can manipulate these circumstances and use adrenaline to their advantage --the "zone" they often call this.
      There is nothing like it in the world if you have ever been there. (this explaining why some can't just walk away form sports)
      Adrenaline junkie -- A junkie, addicted.

      To the contrary, the energy flow of released adrenaline that comes with that can also too work as your enemy as you cannot think clearly as well as playing out of control.

      When worked in parallel with each other, Adrenalin and sports can provide you and spectators with a great show.
      I think that this can override confidence at times as well.

      I personally have dunked playing basketball while spectaters where cheering on a fast break. On the other hand, in practice I have labored and labored to throw one down.

      Wow, thanks for the explanation on things Howie, makes much more sense now. I must admit that whenever i have gotten then Adrenaline rush i always tend to not use it. For example i shall elaborate on this by giving an example of when i encountered alot of Adrenaline, well i think it was Adrenaline.

      Basically this kid at school was causing me a bit of trouble previously but i thought we had cleared it up after a talk, we actually became mates for a while, then one day after school i was just waiting outside for my mates as usual and this guy came up to me and i thought he was just messing about but he pushed me and i gotta stress that this guy is very tall also and was pretty much an early grower and finished growing. Anyways he'd just pushed me and started having a go at me, he then punched me in the stomach, i then suddenly became very faint, dizzy in a way, my vision became very blurry and the following events felt like a dream. In the state i was i was no way ready for a fight which he was obviously out to get so i just said sorry for whatever i had supposedly done and he walked away. Seriously though, it was horrible, i used to have these dreams a few years back in which i'd be fighting people at school who didn't like me and i would sort of lose all of my strength, my arms would become limp and every hit would be weak. I felt useless and then when this happened outside school it felt just like the dreams.

      I've never had such a weird experience, the funny thing was that i don't really feel to bad about backing out from that fight, probably because i knew i could have given it a go if i wasn't so dizzy and hazy, seriously it is one of the weirdest things i've ever experienced.

      I think that the uncontestable #1 adrenaline sport is skydiving, something that everyone should do at least once in their life. I have a lot of experience with flying too, time goes by so fast when you're flying a plane, it always takes me a a few moments to gather myself a bit after I land (my mind likes to stay up in the clouds ). Aerobatic flying is even more insane. You feel and see things you wouldn't think was possible (if your stomach's up to it ). Pretty much anything that creates several kilometers of seperation in between you and the ground is an adrenaline sport .

      I wakeboard, water ski, jet ski, tube, just about anything on boats. I guess it doesnt really give me adrenaline anymore unless I'm being watched by people (girls) lol. Also, street racing is fun, but also illegal, and I wrecked my good car. Oh, and when I lived up north, I loved snowboarding.

      and as seeker mentioned about fighting, thats one of my favorite "adrenaline sports". I love to get drunk and box with friends, thats a weekly thing around here. That seriously sucks that that dude punched you in the stomach first thing. it was definatly adrenaline you felt because it causes you to have that "flight or fight" reaction and a huge rush. I cvant believe you got dizzy though because it should have made you pumped up. Maybe the rush was too much, too fast + the wind knocked out of you. And you were probably nervous. was it your first almost fight experience?

      Not as stupid as mountain biking. I mean wtf, you wheel your bike up a huge mountain and then have to somehow get down steep, loose gravel/stones paths on a bike?!? Saw quite a few of these idiots trying to navigate their way down dangerous slopes, mostly very slowly. A couple fell off.

      On the subject of adrenaline, I played in a rugby match on Saturday and one player on the other team was playing really dirty. He got tackled and when both teams were rucking over I saw him elbowing the guy on our team who had tackled him in the head, again and again, really hard. The ref missed it.
      Anyway I got really mad and could practically feel the adrenaline. I was so angry with the other team. Next time I got the ball I just ran through every one and kept on going through, and I scored. Definitely has its uses
      Incidentally the same player bit me later in the match in a strange place.

      I love mountain climbing as well. Even when you've got ropes supporting you when you almost fall it's damn scary. It's also very challenging, both on real mountains and on climbing walls.

      I actually can't wait to be old enough to do bungee jumping, paragliding and maybe skydiving. That kind of thing really intices me. I'd love to be that high up and falling.

      Haha toaster @ the guy who bit you . Anyways, I agree that conventional sports can provide quite the adrenaline rush in their own right. Having been in the competitive martial arts circle for nearly ten years, I know a thing or two about what you mean. You'd be surprised how pumped up you can get from kicking people in the face . Also, adrenaline becomes almost necessary to keep you alive during long tournaments. During the fights, I used to feel top notch and practically immune to pain. I would get massive punches to the head, only to shake them off and keep fighting like if nothing happened. Only after the fight would I fall apart all at once. I remember, after one tournament, I had a black eye, a broken rib, a sprained jaw, a few broken toes (from kicking people ), and a dislocated thumb (from punching people...). Anyways, I didn't feel any of that until I went out for supper with the rest of the gang from my club. It was funny seeing each other all withering in well earned pain .
