      Tell me about basic French

Hello all, in about two weeks I'm off to the south of France for a few weeks, which should be nice. Anyway, I really don't know too much French.

What are some important phrases I should know in order to survive?

      Bonjour! Hello!
      Au revoir. Goodbye.
Je voudrais... I would like... (in a restaurant)
      Où est... Where is...
      S'il vous plaît. Please.
      Merci. Thanks.
      Excusez moi. Excuse me.
Comment t'appelles tu? / Comment t'appelez vous? (Formal) What's your name?
J'ai besoin pour la toilette! I need the toilet! (I think)

There's some for you so far.

where are you off to, btw? Because I returned from France one week ago, more precisely from Montpellier. If you went there I could tell you some things about it...

Bonjour! Hello! actually, you say "bonjour" during the day, "bonsoir" in the evening
      Au revoir. Goodbye.
Je voudraisaimerais... I would like... (in a restaurant)
      Où est... Where is...
      S'il vous plaît. Please.
      Merci. Thanks.

Comment t'appelez vous? What's your name?
J'ai besoin d'une toilette! I need the toilet!
I felt free to correct the expressions...

      and there are some others:
crotte de chien ... dog shit (watch out for them, there are lots on the streets in France)
vous parlez anglais? ... Do you speak English?
salut (don't pronounce the "t"; but I think you should know) ... hi (for friends)
if someone sneezes you say: à tes souhaits (for friends)
à vos souhaits (for older people you don't know or to be more polite)
Fantasy is much more important and more valuable than Knowledge because Knowledge is limited... --- Einstein

Current Top 3 LD tasks (see all):
      [X] have an LD
[_] summon yoda who teaches me how to use the Force and lightsabres on it now
[_] meet the main characters of my fantasystory on it now

Thanks, I haven't done French for quite a while so I'm a bit rusty. So I could honestly say "Pardon my French".

My only suggestion to you Alex is to bring a french dictionary with you, since lots of people will be talking it you will quickly pick things up, i hated french in school, so difficult to learn, i'm glad never to do it again, but i hope you have a good holiday, you'll find that when surrounded by the culture and language you will pick things up easier.
