I'd personally prefer people to tell me that they are proud of me, because then I'd have more of a sense of acheivement and accomplishment (as Lucid Seeker said).

I just think that achievement is more of a status related thing whilst love is more of a caring emotion which makes me feel good knowing that someone feels that way about me.

I've never been in a serious relationship where a girl had been in love with me (I'm only 16:p) so I can't really say how much I'd appreciate being loved in that way. But if a member of my family was to say that they love me it'd probably mean very little as it's really a given. I'd expect members of my family to love me because that's what they do. It doesn't mean that they like me, they just get attached to me in that way because they've been stuck with me for 16 years. If anything It'd mean far more to me if someone told me that they liked me as a person.

I think you have a point. Love is thrown around so much now a days. So it would seem to me that proud would feel better, unless love was completley genuine

But doesn't loving somebody include pride by default? If you love somebody you accept them for who they are and rejoice in that. If you aren't proud of them would there not be something missing?

I can't say i'm qualified to answer the question as far as love between two unrelated people goes, but when it comes to my family i feel that pride is a part of my love for them. I love them and thus i'm proud of who they are.

I understand what you're saying.. but I also know that I can love someone and not always be proud of their actions.
