Thread: Tell me about the Independent Party

Hello.

So I'm a little confused. I registered for the Independent Party thinking that it meant that I decided not to be split between Democrat or Republican because really, I hold sides from both parties and I really don't wish to be stuck to one side and go with the "herd".

But I'm looking through Google, and I'm getting different results like it's a "right-wing" party, or Independents strongly value "In God We Trust" on the dollar (I strongly don't), but most of the posts on urbandictionary.com says that it's just a non-affiliated party.

Help please... Do I need to just check "non-affiliated" next time? Because I heard that those people can't vote on some propositions (which seems totally ridiculous).

Non-affiliated is what you wanted. Though there is no harm. The only thing you are limited in voting for is for primaries, and that depends on your state. And if you were non-affiliated, you would likely be restricted from voting for primaries anyway.

The primaries is like a pre-election vote, to decide who the party wants to support in an upcoming election. So if you are a republican you vote in the republican primary to decide who the republicans will put on the ballot. The same goes for the democrat.

In the actual election itself, you are allowed to vote on everything, and there are no limits. If you are registered democrat, you could vote all republicans if you want. There is really no difference. So no harm done. If you feel like it, you can register non-affiliate next time you have the chance, but its not a big deal if you don't.

There is no "Independent Party." Being an independent means that you're not registered with a party. My voter registration card calls it "no affiliation"

If you don't agree with either the Republicans or Democrats... either don't vote, or vote for a candidate with policies that you like. Don't just vote for a random party..? :l

Checking Independent is also a handy way to get out of the republican/democrat mailbox spam that comes in around voting time.

I said I hold beliefs from both sides and I just want to know what classifies someone as an Independent so that I'm not making a mistake when registering. I never said anything about voting for a random party...

But then why did I get information that says Independents believe in the God protecting the constitution and stuff like that? I thought they were just unaffiliated, like you said. I hope your right.

Uhm, then I guess a group of wackos just took the name Independent. When most people tell you they are independent, they mean unaffiliated. I'm an independent, but I know that there is no such thing as "god."

Registering for a group, is just a statement of saying "I generally agree with this group." Its not a binding agreement to anything, and you can vote any way you wish, regardless of what you are registered as. You could register republican but vote all democrat, doesn't matter. People can get lists though, so you might come up in a list for that part.

You will also get spammed if you are registered to a party.

Although i have no religion i do believe in god. And i am no dumbass. Just becuase people dont believe what you do doesnt mean you calll them dumb asses. That just makes you look like an immature smart ass.

And just FYI, M-Theory lets scientist calculate right to the beginning of the universe and even before it. The beginning of the universe is no longer a mystery.

Right dakotahnok, don't worry about it. I agree with ninja though. We are suppose to have separated church and state, yet some of us are trying to play politics by the bible.

There was the Big Bang. I don't know any calculations, but from what we have observed, the universe is expanding. This expansion had to start from somewhere at some point. I'm not sure how they know what happened before it, but because I haven't heard about it yet.
