Looking for an Art message board

One where people post paintings (not their own), perhaps give a little background about the artist, and then members offer commentary. Anyone know of a message board like that? It might seem inappropriate to ask about another message board here, but that type of message board would probably be too vast to start here. I would start a single thread for an artist, only my knowledge is very limited (hence wanting an established message board with which to learn more and discuss).

I like your idea a lot!! Very cool. While I would like to know if you find a board like this, I also think that one should be started here. If you were to create such a thread, how would you like it formatted? Any particular type of work, I.E. Painting only, sculpture only, any type of art, etc.

I just always enjoy watching PBS or documentaries on art and artists and figure a message board has got to exist somewhere out there, but no matter how many times I google it, nothing shows up. I can find interesting commentary on individual artists or pieces of work, but no one concentrated board. How would you create it, Howie?

With only limited time invested, I can't find anything like that either. On Dream Views, it could not be that elaborate. To be that involved, it would not give a dreaming forum the attention it deserves. Like wise, not with out giving the credit an "Art" Forum would deserve. What we could do, begin a Topic that presents, let's say a Monet painting. Take that particualar subject and discuss it in detail. With that in mind, only going on to the next subject when discussion on that particular piece was ended. then again, begin a new discussion on a new piece of art. (painting, sculpture, what have you) Just brain storming. What do you think? I feel it is certainly something we could dabble around with.

Yeah, I was thinking of something like that too. Sounds like a start. And it's not like making a message board is all that difficult if people are interested. The problem is recruiting members. Care to start one? Also, a thread like the "Describe how the previous poster's avatar makes you feel" could be cool; people could post an image and the next poster could describe how it makes them feel. I also like the idea of an image association thread (like word association) where the next poster responds with an image playing off the previous one. Or write a passage describing what's going on in or around the picture. I'm a bit incoherent today, apologies. Keep brainstorming!

Yeah I like your Idea alot, only why did you suggest to post and sicuss paintings not selfmade? I would like to see an Art forum byt one where you can discuss YOUR art and that of professional artists you igmire. In fact posting and discussing selfmade art is really very cool. Doesn't DeviantArt have forums?

Doesn't DeviantArt have forums? I think SKA that in the Artist's corner that many of the members do already upload and discuss their own art. Which is a great thing. Not only do we get to see a variety of great work, also the members get feedback and constructive criticism or praise. I can't speak for WhiteVeins. I am not sure what exactly he envisions. I thought that bringing outside work, skilled and often popular works, would bring a new wide range of discussions and interpretations to the board. There are so many ideas that this could spawn. Do I care to start one? Sure!! Let me give some thought into a good starting piece. As you, SKA, myself and others spawn new ideas, we can elaborate from there.

Go ahead and speak for me Howie; I think we're on the same page here. Ska, personal work is fine and it should probably be one of the forums, but I see it all the time. I've seen it here, I've seen it on DeviantArt, I've seen it everywhere. And while some of it is good, the majority of it either isn't or doesn't interest me. I like the idea of attending an art exhibit (as Howie said, of polished, often popular works) from your computer. But I'm certainly not excluding personal work. Yes. Ideas. Spawn!

Well this topic has sit idle too long. So let's start something. I can take any given art topic and view it under a microscope, from a distance, pick it apart and talk about it a great lengths. Here is one of my favorites I have hanging on the wall. Artist: Brent Heighton My thoughts: Because I am a big advocate of abstract art maybe one reason this appeals to me so much. ● This painting teeters on the edge of an abstract/realism view. As noted in the proverb in my Sig, I feel this work does exactly that. An inward significance. Which to me, is feeling. All composition aside, this takes me to place in my mind that is not concrete. A soft magnificent choice of colors (like you can see in all of his work) exemplifies the entire nature of the painting. ● Technique: Wow. If you know water color you also know how good this is. Wet on wet. Aside from preliminary ideas and placement, this painting in it's entirety may have only taken minutes. 29? But orchestrating all of the paint and what it does, when it does shows a masterful form of technique. ● Composition. Thoughts? I have a lot of my own but would like to here others and get this thread rolling. I am not at all apposed to bringing to the table another painting if any any one likes. I have worked this one over many times before I bought it. Sooo. I think what Whiteveins and I had envisioned is taking ONE piece and analyzing it from head to toe, then going on to another. Aslo to include talking about the artist themselves if we want.
