This is pretty much the first poem I ever wrote. I wrote this in English class for an assignment where we had to take one line from an existing poem to start off our own. I chose a line from "The Eagle" by Alfred Tennyson so I never gave it a title. It's about one of those flowers in the desert that only blooms at night, so I guess I'll call it "Moonflower" since thats the only species I could find when researching the names of flowers that do that.

This is the original poem that I chose my beginning line from...

The Eagle

He clasps the crag with crooked hands;
Close to the sun in lonely lands,
Ring’d with the azure world, he stands.

The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls,
And like a thunderbolt he falls.

This is what I wrote...

Moonflower

Close to the sun in lonely lands
A dull desert bud hides on the sands
Patiently waiting for the day to pass
It shields from the rays it's sensitive glands

While most sleep under the moons subtle glow
This bud opens fully for the mystical show
Only those eyes adapt to the night
Will have this flower's true beauty to know

Tell me what you think, or don't lol, I just wanted to share it since I haven't shown it to anyone I know.
