      Yippy

      So every one is happy?

I think by the responses from this tread that I received the answer.

      Ok Wendy.
We can't let this go until you are happy as well!

One thing I would like to point out. (again)
If you look back at the question posed, I wanted counter arguments!!
Yes.. you are the minority and are bound to get ganged up on.
But I don't feel you have had a valid argument against why art would not be important, if not imperative to a culture.
You have, in persistence paralleled art to math and science.
I have no doubt that both of the above are important aspects for a society as well. More important actually.
I don' think anyone is arguing you here.
      So .......

The reason why I was saying Howie, howie, howie is because you posting the thread caused some arguments. Mostly from me, however thegnome and ethen starting fighting.

You know, just when I thought it was safe to consider myself an artist, I come across this....

hey that guy is pretty cool! I like the Bruce Lee Karate Chop pic.

One thing that boggles my mind is how he managed to write those sentences out on that circular canvas, while at the same time making the image of a face. It seems like I have a lot in common with this person. Recently I have been working on a type of pointillism myself, but I use gunpowder to make the imagery. Basically I just spread it out on watercolor paper (because it has some thickness to it) and use a series of burns to create lighter and darker shades. But since it burns in a granular fashion, it ends up looking like pointillism. I'll post a pic of a lotus flower I made with this technique not too long ago. At the moment, I’m working on a 40" x 60" piece of a nude woman, but I still have a lot to do. I also had an idea that involves blood. My fiancé had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about a year after we had gotten together. Since then, I had saved up all of her test strips, which are these plastic strips that soak up her blood in order to test her blood glucose levels. They are only 1" by 1/4", but so far I have enough for a 20" x 20" square if I put them all into a grid. I was then thinking of painting a picture of her (or us) over these strips with my own blood. *sigh

I’ll tell you what, one of the most difficult aspects of art for me is coming up with an awesome and original idea, only to discover that some else has done/is doing something just like it. It makes you feel so violated, even if they did it first!

Here are some pics of the Gunpowder Lotus

Keep in mind that these pictures are taken with a shitty camera, from close up, which sucks because pointillism works better from further away. The orginial is much better. Here is what it would look like from further away.

Ethen, very cool concept and execution.

Here's my musical version of "pointillism," if there is such a thing:

Hotel Eden from The Cornell Boxes for orchestra.

I often use different combinations of instruments to create a single sound or gesture. They might each be performing a different part of the sound, such as the attack, sustain, decay, a moving part, or part of a harmony. Each part by itself doesn't say much, but built up together, they fit together like a puzzle of musical texture.

I could imagine hearing that in some sort of movie or film. Interesting indeed.

Here are a couple drawings I have done

This is a little secluded nook on the DU campus. This where the river-thingy that runs throughout the campus begins.

This is a self portrait...of me lol. Fun fact: If you look close enough, I have hidden am image of my cat Tweek in the reflection of my eyebrow piercing.

      [edit]

Oh, and this is a poor quality scan of the peice that I had sold to Kaiser for $500 back when I was 18. It's titled "17" ironcially, back when I was a bit emo...

      Yes.
For inspirational reasons, if you have not already, you should also post these in the Artist's Forum!
